I was laid off a little over a year ago. At that point everyone over 55 was considered a retiree. It really doesn’t mean much since there are no retiree benefits anymore.
It used to be packages were different based on age, as they would offer to bridge you to retirement if you weren't at retirement age to get full RIGP benefits. They would allow you up to a year as an unpaid employee to reach retirement age, and take the severance and payout 50% the value over 2x the time. But that was at least a couple years ago. I assume they don't bridge any longer, and since severance is capped at 12 weeks (varies on org), I doubt they would do the half value over 2x the time any longer to help bridge.
