Just heard today they have a plan in place to eliminate 1/4th of all associates within the next 2 years. All registers are going away and will be ran on scan and go and self checkout. Store hours are changing to 10am instead of 7 am and will be open til 830 on sundays instead of 6. And no more physical cards...all cards are available on the sams club app. Dont have the card on their then you cant purchase anything.

They are dismantling Sam's empire one piece at a time. I like my job but in the back of my head I know one day they will cut jobs and eventually it will probably be mine. Awful way to live!
Unfortunately there is still people working for this company that thinks there job will never be cut and many who think that no one else can do there job and they are not replaceable. I’ve never seen so many egos and most are making 11 bucks an hour or a little more depending on how long they been with the company.
100% true, self checkouts can be made to take cash. Walmart already does this!

I really can’t see only S&G and self checkout...people still use cash and no more membership cards...REALLY—-how do they get gas? What about the MANY members that don’t have smart phones—-do you really think they are going to turn away sales?
Regardless of any of this being true or not, contraction has been happening on a continual basis for at least as long as I've been with the company. I'll go out on a limb and estimate we're running with probably half the number of people we used to and it is extremely unlikely that this gradual pattern of downsizing will end.
If you're smart, you'll start taking the initiative and assemble your getaway plan. No matter how good you think you are at what you do, or how indispensable you believe the role you play in your club is, your time will come to an end whenever they say it does. Do what you can on behalf of yourself, and take the steps you need to in order to make it your choice to leave and not theirs to give you the proverbial boot. Or, at the very least, start being smart with your money and begin putting whatever you can away for that eventual rainy day.
The situation isn't just as simple as many of us make it out to be when we say, "They don't care about us." The unfortunate truth is that where they're headed with this business, they don't need us. And I really hate saying this, but based on the direction we're headed in as a society, we're also becoming less and less dependent on one another as well. That's not something to blame this company for either. We have technology to thank for that.
The 10am opening would be great but if that’s true they need to stop using opening at 7am is for plus members when they are trying to get them to upgrade.

Think it's crazy? My local Walmart just eliminated all but four full serve checkouts and installed over 30 self checkouts. They have two employees manning these.

That's crazy. That's similar to what I heard. I didn't hear the Sunday part. I heard more than likely we would be open Thanksgiving Day.
