Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Corporate Consolidation and Shrinkage

There have been a few rumblings of Lorain closing next fall, San Francisco further consolidating, downtown Cincinnati moving to Progress Place, and of course hundreds more jobs being cut or restructured and outsourced in the coming months. What we’ve just heard was the first wave, be prepared for more.

Interested what others are hearing, as I’m sure we’ll hear about it in the news two days before leaderships tells us.

There’s nothing on the “job boards” because there’s people in closing locations that are first in line for any jobs available in other stores. Company will want to make offers to some of these people before hiring anyone outside of the company or people wanting to promote. It’s this way every year. Nothing new.

The OP is talking about the corporate and Macy's Tech offices, not the stores, but it's still interesting to see what's going on in all areas.

I think as one poster said.. macys has 850 stores including bloomingdales and bluemercury etc they said by end of 2020 they will go down to 650 stores end of 2021 down to 450 stores total.. i think because of leases and cut backs it cost money to break a lease.. so also it takes time to free up real estate they own in dying malls.. i just read bloomingdales just let a bunch go and my guess its being done in phases with respect to leases, real estate, packages, if you go to job boards there is either no job or one or two... i think what coming is only the beginning.
