My store has been seriously under stocked for a while. I get that the company has a hard time convincing the vendors to take it seriously and I’m aware that the delivery issues are much hard to handle compared to the time when Sears had a larger footprint, but if a store is kept understocked for such a long time, isn’t it bound to fail and be declared unprofitable. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to grab an additional paycheck, or two, before this is over, but wouldn’t it be much simpler just to close the stores that they can’t stock properly?

Interesting post. A little too late though. I started playing the Sears game (buying stuff for free with points, or at least get products at 10 cents on the dollar using coupons, points, etc) a few years ago, and back then I was wondering what was the point on having a retail location with 10% of the products OOS. If a shopper wastes time driving to the store, trying to find a product, and it turns it to be out of stock, he/she will shop online next time. I still kept on playing because I enjoyed getting stuff for free. Fast forward 4 or 5 years, and now 60 to 90% of the stuff is OOS. At this point, most of the hardcore players like me have dropped out of the game. Now think about real shoppers willing to spend real cash. They were gone looong ago.
Who cares?
I know if 2 stores which closed both had leases both making money
Reality is that Eddie wants the stores to fail so he can financially justify closing the stores. So many stores that have already closed were very profitable.
I was thinking the same thing. Our only store here which is huge and is in a very important shopping mall doesn't have enough inventory, lots of empty shelves and the electronics section is a joke. How are you supposed to have good financials if you don't have anything to offer for customers to buy? Mind-blowing.
yes. Close them all
I think they can only liquidate so many stores at once. Our store is fairly bare, and I cannot imagine how much worse it will look when Lands End leaves in a couple of weeks. Customers are constantly asking when we are closing.
I think if they closed the stores that they can’t stock, it’d be all of them. But they have to ‘appear’ to be keeping some open, though not sure why or who they think they’re fooling....
