Liquidation Process

Liquidation begins Monday at our store. How does it usually proceed? 25% off of ALL merchandise the first week, etc? How about scheduling? I would appreciate any discussion on the liquidation process and what to expect for associates.

Going through liquidation is a horrible experience. First of all most of your regular customers will stop shopping your store, and it will get to the point where you will be glad because you won't want them to see what a wreck the store will become. Next up, the unwashed masses come out of the woodwork, and they are now your customers. Prepare to be yelled at more than usual. The good thing is you don't have to be quite as nice as we normally would. Also watch out for the thieves. In my experience the liqudator team were actually pretty nice, Make sure Macys is giving you some kind of severance, if not it might not be worth staying until the end.

My store went through liquidation 3 years ago.....very soon returns will no longer allowed, from other stores and .com. Our customers thought by screaming at us we would still take their returns. NOT SO.....customers also thought our merchandise would be 90% off from day one.....the best line from our liquidators....."I'm sorry, this merchandise is not available at that price today "....also, our employee discount was not available on merchandise purchased at stores going through liquidation. This is not an easy process to go through.....as your store becomes empty, it feels like the soul is slowly being s—ed out of the building.....just know that this is a loss issue for everyone in the building, and grieving will be just under the surface for all......but.....there IS life after M.....best wishes to all.....

When my store closed nearly 4 years ago, a lot of other merchandise was brought in. Furs and rugs were selling. Also a lot of clearance fine jewelry. The liquidator runs the show. They sell everything. Stuff comes out of the back rooms like old wrapping paper when we had a gift wrap department, visual props from years of use. They even sold the hangers! If you liked working at your store, you will find it to be a sad time. It was tough splitting up the fine group of dedicated people who worked there. Most took the severance package, some retired, small group took transfers to the larger stores in the area, I was one of those. Two years later I got laid off, with 28 years of service. I went back 3 months later, as flex, where I continue. I have always been part time, so flex works for me. Good luck to you all. There is life after Macys. A previous poster recommended retraining. So true. Retail is a dying business. Find a job where you can have some weekends free and enjoy life a little.

Your store will be taken over by the liquidators and they will tell you what to do. You will receive a sheet with 10%, 20% - 90% off barcodes to scan. Of course in the beginning it will start low (The regular Macys stores will have better prices to start). No coupons, no Star Money earned, and everything is final sale.
