Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

You have no idea...

Most of the people commenting on this site have no idea just how bad Lowe’s has gotten in the past few years in comparison to the company it once was. I’ve worked for Lowe’s for over ten years and the company you work for now is barely recognizable. We were once a thriving and growing company that was kicking Home Depot’s a–. We were once a company that people were proud to work for. We paid people very well in comparison to the rest of the retail industry. Everyone had access to benefits, commissions and bonuses. We were stealing away everyone else’s employees because of all of this and it was difficult to get a job at Lowe’s. Lowes had a great reputation and we were making money and customers were happy.

What happened!? Yeah, I can hear some of you asking that from here. Well, it’s a long story but a basic one to understand. What you have now is what happens when a company is lead by people with no clear vision or strategy. This is what happens when you settle for being number two and focus on driving up the stock price without regard to your basic business model. You think I’m kidding? Look at what we’re selling this Black Friday; toys, skateboards, mattresses and Moose Munch. When the h ell did we change from a hardware store into a K-Mart?

We’re not focusing on increasing sales, we’re focusing on cutting positions to pump up our profitability. We’d rather spend the day begging for 10s on our surveys rather than actually earning them with customer service and having the place staffed with knowledgeable people. Why bother to be a really good business when you can fake it for the short term to please Wall Street . Who cares if the company is becoming a joke. By the time the place falls apart, most of the moro ns at the head of this company will be nicely retired and won’t give a f— what they’ve left behind. As long as you’ve got yours, then who gives a sh– what you’ve done to business right boomers?

Enjoy your stock price now guys. Once it becomes apparent to the rest of the world that our corporate masters have painted themselves into a corner with no real strategy forward then it’ll fall like a rock. My recommendation for everyone in the stores? Run. Run to a company that at least knows what it wants to do and has a clear path forward. Don’t wait until it becomes obvious to the rest of the world too. Look out for yourselves. God knows Marvin and his flunkies are.

This is a winning post and very true. I started with Lowe's at the end of 2013 right after it expanded into Canada. I started at a store that had been open for less than a year. The group of employees that I started with were a proud and knowledgeable bunch. The OP is right, it was hard to get a job there and I considered myself lucky – I was the Electrical Pro and made a decent amount more than minimum wage. Lowe's wanted to pay me more for my knowledge. I left at the beginning of 2017 for a more lucrative position with an actual electrical distribution company. I could see the writing on the wall even then. The culture in the store and our corporate leadership had changed and I could see what was ahead and started looking then. There isn't anything good coming for Lowe's in the foreseeable future. If you currently work for Lowe's PAY ATTENTION, your job depends on it.

Good luck to you all.

To the author of the "Lowe’s has never been better" post perhaps you should crawl back under the corporate rock from which you came. I also have umpteen years of service with the company and both myself and MANY of the posters on this site are posting here because they are on the front lines and see first hand what is happening at the one-on-one level with our actual CUSTOMERS because of recent corporate decisions.

Perhaps I should also direct you to all the CUSTOMER complaints that are rolling in on our third party delivery service and Sterling order routing issues. Particularly like the one about a CUSTOMER observing on a XPO employee urinating on their front porch (I actually have first hand knowledge of that one as the couple came in with the video evidence). Perhaps you should share your views with the CUSTOMERS that are blowing up both the store phones and the corporate call center asking exactly what the hell is going on with their appliance deliveries that are being routed by Sterling all over the state of FL when they should have been going to cross dock/XDT facility 3434. We are actually seeing Sterling orders getting routed to stores that are over 100 miles a way and/or being split among multiple stores and in some cases with different delivery dates. IT can't seem to fix it. Would LOVE to post some Sterling order numbers so you could verify just how f__ked up the system has become (assuming you even know what Sterling is and/or how to navigate the software) but do not want to invade my CUSTOMERS privacy by doing so. Suppose all that's the hourly employees fault.

ADC 3374 out of practically every model appliance that our CUSTOMERS are asking for over the past week and a half. Suppose that's the hourly employees fault. Forced to sell as stock and then being told by the order replenishment staff that if your a "cross-dock" store they are not permitted to put your "out of stock" SOE item on manual order and that you have to speak to a buyer (per corporate direction they say). Suppose that's also the hourly employees fault. Store manager can't even 5.3 an appliance if your a cross-dock store. Suppose that's also the hourly employees fault.

Would like to go on but trying to educate someone that clearly measures success solely by stock price is a total wast of my time. You can go back to snorting your dividends now. PS: Hey if your man enough please post your store and employee number so I can start forwarding some of these CCIC issues to you since you clearly have nothing better to do.

Lowe’s has never been better. Love seeing all the hourly associates on her complaining when they could be working hard to make something of themselves instead of blaming corporate for their problems. 18 years in and making a bunch of money on my 401 and Lowe’s stock. I’m loving it while you cry like babies

Menards? Obviously the answer to Bad Retail Chain Without Worker Representation is Good Retail Chain Without Worker Representation. I don't see how it could go wrong.

Writen by @12bNfLFv-2cny: "Sounds Crazy! Right Now it is The HD and Lowe’s Duopoly. Marvelous Marv could be setting up Lowe’s for the ultimate merger or hostile takeover by HD. Stranger Things have happened by Hedge Funds."

Menards is setting themselves up to go national I think. They are building their first stores outside what had been their core area of the states closest to Wisconsin: 2 in West Vigginia and 1 in Pennsylvania. They are privately held, have a lot of cash reserves because the Menard family is relatively frugal for billionaires.

I started a few years before Mr Tillman retired and the sock puppet CPA was put in the Big Chair by the major shareholders. I was amazed at how fast Marvin and the Marvettes got to the lack of respect level I had for Nibron and Damlok at the end of their tenure.

I worked there for over 12 years until the great LP purge of 2019. I decided against taking an ASM role, largely because the company had become miserable to work for over the past few years, and I would only be more unhappy if I stayed for a position that wasn’t a good fit. Best thing I ever did was leave. Should have done so 3 years sooner.

I remember the retire rich campaign, how many else out there do? The problem with that is that you are let go before you have the ability to return. Not a lot of 15+ year employees left and getting smaller everyday.

Many of us remember Tillman of Lowe’s used to be a Top 50 employer. Employee driven company. Not let’s forget Lowe’s Retire Rich Campaign. This is what happens today when the few control the masses by Marvelous Marv’s Divine Right Program. Your job is governed by the will of The King for his self-enrichment not yours.

You want lack of vision? Ok, here it is. We’ve become a copy of Home Depot. The signage, the merchandising, the product ordering: all copying the Depot. Even the wrapping of Black Friday product in the store - Home Depot. The HR changes, the scheduling changes, the phones, the staffing model - Home Depot. It’s what you do when you don’t have any ideas or vision of your own. Marvin apparently doesn’t have an original thought so he copies. But you aren’t going to get anywhere just copying your competitors. If you really want to challenge Home Depot, and they claim they do, you’re going to have to do better than that. But all I’ve seen so far is a desperate attempt to throw anything at the wall and see what sticks, like selling toys, skateboards and mattresses. I look forward to buying one when they inevitably go on clearance in a few weeks and we eat some more margin dollars.

The toys and other things are being run by retailers everywhere. It’s a gimmick to try and get more folks in because they can get some of that stuff here along with their appliances or whatever without having to make another trip. Heck Depot has coloring supplies if I’m not mistaken. Not a great example of having no vision.
