Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Interesting article about Boeing...we can certainly draw some parallels with UP...

Arrogant a–holes generally come in thinking they know everything and insist on changing the culture and reorganizing or moving headquarters. Like the id–t that took ConAgra to Chicago. And then they usually let the bean counters take over. Lance let Rob take the helm at UP and profit is the only thing that matters when the CFO runs a bank instead of a railroad.

I concur, there are similarities that can be drawn from the article. The fact that the company has put financial gains over the care of the employees speaks volumes. Something that has been overlooked is the fact that the higher ups knew there would be many foremen as well as 30 to 40 year employees that were retiring. Instead of incrementally hiring to fill the gaps, they let the numbers slide. Now there is a huge gap between new employees and seasoned veterans. The average time out in the field is 15 years of service. Routine maintenance has been replaced with larger projects in order to boost numbers. They (corporate) don't want to admit that fewer employees equates to more accidents. Upper mgmt turns a blind eye and blames the individuals. Boeing has intentionally outsourced its engineering department to third world employees whom of which have no aeronautical background. No wonder the 737 is destined for the sc-ap yard....
