What does it say about the paranoia and the cowardice of the owner and management that the company is terrified of "members" and the media interviewing associates and speaking their minds about what they think of the company, taking pictures/videos of stores and uploading to instagram/YouTube, or even talking about real company problems on Pebble. Sears is pretty much a dark reflection of Eddie's personality and his own personal failings.

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain! That’s the basic idea. But, it’s easy to figure out... they basically want a media blackout because they don’t want people to know what’s really going on. Publicly: “We’re trying to save Sears/Kmart don’t you know that?” Privately: “The ship is going down, but we need to keep a lid on this as much as possible. We can’t afford any more bad press!”
