Yourself marketable as an an employee and have skills that transfer. You are not entitled to have an employer do it for you.

This site helped me prepare and buy Christmas gifts for my kids. It was mentioned in October that my department could be axed in November. Guess what, it was. So if you don’t like it, get off.
I've worked for a lot of health insurance companies. They're all the same. Productivity beats quality every time. They all talk about quality, but it's always about the bottom line. Always. Offshoring will continue until regulations are in place that don't allow it. It doesn't matter that the offshore teams aren't knowledgeable. UHC will take that chance. I don't trust employers to do right by their employees. Everyone is replaceable in today's society.
Optum is a total sham! They allow sales to sign up members who have advanced dementia and are not capable of signing for themselves, then they pretend they didn’t know! They allow the bare minimum to be completed for the Short stay program when short staffed so that they can justify billing, upper management terrorizes employees about utilization, those with high utilization get performance improvement plans- it doesn’t matter what the circumstances are! The values are a farce! All they care about is the bottom line!
This company is disgusting..I have never had a company so secretive that separated all levels of management with zero communication about what is happening..This company kept me in the dark since day 1, I have never been in a company in which my director doesnt even know who I am..
The tracking software and mandatory shutting down of pcs should have clues me in who the hell does that...
Anyway on to better things ..and to new beginnings...
I am angry for blindsiding me in a BS meeting and why no press about the layoffs. Who is this sick excuse of a company paying off?

Why get on here and comment on a Lay-off Website if you’re sooooooo happy with UHC/Optum? Obviously you’re either NOT HAPPY AND ONLY PLAYING YOURSELF -or- you ARE UHC/Optum Management/PR? So which one is it? You trolls are probably both! Ha! Enjoy love!

Tell your friends and family about it who don’t work for the company! Bookmark the site! Don’t let these supposedly “happy employee” commenting on a Lay-off website deter you from posting your truth or questions!
They are so afraid of any employees actually being informed and talking about issues with this company. They completely shut down a thread discussing Finances on the HUB as soon as people started talking about the c-appy ESPP cut. They want you to be sheep and lap up the BS in all the townhalls. They do not care about employees at all or members. Your are nothing but a necessary expense and members are just revenue. The entire culture and lipservice about all the values is just a total farce when the bottom line profit is not meeting expectations. I am truly grateful to all the clinical staff who really help members despite the company they work for screwing them over while they do it.
The original post was probably written by the director that lied to everyone on her last call and brought this site up specifically. If not her, it’s definitely someone in senior leadership. This site is helpful. Very helpful. And the point about keeping yourself marketable and having skills to transfer is the biggest farce I have ever heard from someone that obviously is in a high level position. They take employees all the time and unceremoniously rip them from one department to another without so much as a thanks. They don’t look at their skills when the move them either, just a call and “come Monday your boss will be so and so.” So why are they letting us keep our computers for a month to find other internal jobs?? Huh?? Why not just use the same mentality to fill those open positions? Because this time it doesn’t benefit them in any way. That’s why. And we ARE entitled to our opinion. Keep posting folks!

The difference between this site and ones like Glassdoor is that UHC goes after those who post negative reviews on other sites but cannot do anything about those who post with candor here. The info in this place has been spot on. Just think - if UHC and Optum took the money they spend trying to project a reputation of ethics and responsibility, and instead actually acted the way they say they do, so much could be different. Same money, very different outcomes.
It is all about the stock prices and perceptions can only keep the stock prices up for so long. When an insurance company has increases like UHC, inevitably it will come out that the profit comes at the cost to customers and employees. It is not sustainable and will crash. This run is the highest level executives getting all they can get before they cut and run with their loot.
I'm my dept, we have a name for people like the OP. "SHEEP"... I am a 17 yr veteran with UHC and will tell you that uhc doesn't give a damn about you at all! They care about MONEY and that's it. They don't care about sick people, or employees, or ethics, or values. UHC is a sham, it's all about what the perspective of the consumers. UHC spends millions to make commercials to make there public perspective look like a caring company. Nothing UHC does is caring at all. Employees get pitiful 1% raises, and just what do you think upper level managers get? Upper management raises and bonuses are based upon vital signs survey participation by their employees, and if they are under budget when it comes to yearly review $$ given out. Everything at uhc is driven by $ nothing else. My supervisors manager has a college degree in culinary sciences! And has been in over 11 depts in 15 years! And was very proud to tell us this! All it tells me is they don't stay in a dept long enough to know what they are doing, and are just hop-scotching up the ladder! But yet this person tells us how to do our job, and how fast we should do our job! But of course has NEVER done our job! Upper management is a joke! They get raises and promotions based upon our work, they don't produce anything but misery and problems for their workers. Just call HR you say? HA! They will just recite their 2 line script..."rules are based on departmental needs" and... "rules are based on manager discretion "... translation= you are screwed...
I guarantee you have a role in upper management and you’re trying deflect the situation by posting a comment like that. People can see right through it. The fact is this company preaches about integrity and compassion and here we are, right before Christmas watching our co workers get laid off one by one without warning. Joining “trainings” and being told they’re finished. No one feels safe, years have been wasted. We are all trying to get out.l.
NO, what it does is helps employees figure out what’s going on!!! I have had nothing but stress and anxiety for the past 2+ months since the first layoffs in my department. Since I am a telecommuter (like the majority of employees), it’s not easy to chat with your co-workers. Management has gone quiet, 1x1s cancelled with no explanation, questions not answered, fewer and fewer emails/communication to the department, etc. If it wasn’t for this website I’d be even more stressed trying to play guessing games everyday. The sad part is I would actually be relieved to be laid off at this point. I am not stressing about the fact of being laid off as much as the unknown and guessing. And not everyone can just up and quit as easily as some. Think about the single parent that works at home and now has to arrange child care or that some may lose benefits due to state laws if they quit.
Who are you to say this site is not helpful to me? I get to say what is helpful to me. Not you. It's information. A whole lot more than what is being given from UHC leadership. They still havent told my team who was laid off on my own team. I found out by asking people directly.
Keep posting! UHC/Optum Management & PR just hates the traffic we are bringing to this site. The more traffic, the more post, the more attention we bring to this site. It’s management posting to stop us from talking/posting so they can control the narrative. Keep posting! Increase the traffic! Bookmark it! They clearly hate it. But who cares, did they care when they laid off loads of people. No. Because they will continue. So carry on, keep posting!

This forum is not spreading fear or misinformation it is telling the truth. If you think otherwise you have your head in the sand.
This site is to inform employees of potential layoffs and discuss effects of those changes. You absolutely should know if your company is having to cut people / benefits / and where they are doing it. Then decide if you want to move on in spite of it. But at least you are aware. You are so much better off doing that while employed than being blindsided by a layoff. Everyone will "keep" doing their job mo–n but what you do with information is up to you. Of course keep your resume updated, network, look for opportunities per normal, but if you were not actively looking maybe info from this site changes that. Just because you were not "impacted" this round doesn't mean anything for future rounds. Keep posting everyone!
I don’t think working hard does anything. If they feel like your position is disposable, they will get rid of it. Anyone’s job is easily replaceable.
They can figure it out! They already have sending jobs oversees for cheaper labor. While they continue to hire more leadership, that no can figure out what they really do. Well what they do after all going to Nashville for a meeting and the CMA awards, but the budget is bad.
It may impose fear but, it is true information. Months ago someone reported the layoff and as of Dec 4 I witnessed the layoff. I believe it just opened our eyes to being expendable pawns. I saw 3 dedicated employees from high manger to cac supervisor loose their position. All the while holding meetings to cover up real reasoning of the mass layoffs, reading scripted information and not answering real questions to why and are we next. Do they expect that we can trust that no matter how hard we work or shine that the same disappointing blow might be our same out come? I am sure they don't want the stake holders to know that it is either your approvals or our employees. You guys can't figure out how to cut cost without cutting your employees, and providing stellar care for your member and stakeholders?
