Thread regarding Sears layoffs

I'm curious...

Is there anybody who believes ANY Sears or Kmart stores will still be standing past the first quarter of 2020?

We need to have a buy one get 4 free of equal or lesser value sale. No, there won't be a sears or KMart left that is not owned by wesfarmers

@zko..I agree there are limitations with the number of stores a liquidator can handle but will Sears be able to afford to keep the stores open until fall??

Soon, there is no strategy, business case or precedent that supports them continuing at a reduced footprint. So you have fewer, smaller stores with substandard merchandise, how does that become profitable? Throw in a reputation of having the worst customer service in retail and you have a recipe for instant failure. Don’t know how they still have any doors open at this point

I think the liquidators can only handle liquidatingabout 200 stores every 4 months, so Expect it could run until Fall 2000.

As long as Mr. Lampert keeps paying to keep the lights on, then a few stores will survive unscathed. The real question is how long EL wants to try to keep things going. And only he knows that answer. A recent news article, talked about how Sears is trying to reassure suppliers. Does that sound like a closing down any day now? My guess is their (as in EL & his execs) trying to keep this going as long as possible. Maybe their trying to save face? Could be the reassuring of suppliers is just more smoke and mirrors designed to mask the truth. In any case, yes the ship is clearly sinking, it’s just a matter of how long Captain Lampert can keep it afloat before it goes under.

I believe a few will be still standing but who knows. Our Kmart is mentioned everyday by customers, rumored. It's what we deal with every day. There is no guarantee on anything.

They’ll be standing, as it’s difficult to get them torn down that quickly. Probably won’t be open though.

December 15th is last day for alot of the closing stores. So probably announcing more stores this week. Merry Liquidation!

No, because below a certain store count, the company can't pay for the headquarters, IT, logistics, and other needed functions. We are actually far below that level now, and the collapse is imminent.

I would say yes but very few. I think there will be another round next week once all of the September ones are finished shutting down. If not then, then right after the holidays. That’s just my prediction.

Call me an optomist, but I do! A few stragglers here and there, with total store count under 50.
