Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Missing leaders

We have leaders that have been let go, but the remaining leaders have not brought this to the teams attention. Why would they not announce it to the team? Is this a sign a lay off may hit our team soon?

This is just how Optum does things. There will be no summary communication about who was let go and since they gave many in the 12/4 group until 1/2, the holes in the org charts and gaps in the address book won't be evident until after the New Year.

I'm also hearing that even those in Asst. Director and Director roles didn't know this was coming, probably because they were also on the chopping block.

Use any time off over the holidays to get your resume updated folks!

Automated audits are a bad idea. We need real people in real seats doing real work. American RNs deserve better than what we are doing to them. Automated or offshore RNs are cheaper but for what end? All for almighty dollar? We have to do better as a company. Rehire our RNs or reposition them. Don’t cut them. They are the heartbeat to healthcare.

I wish we could get clarity, is Optum doing well financially or not? Because that flavors everything else in the company from culture to morale.. perhaps asking this question will point us back to basics. If we are making money, then stocks are good and shareholders happy. If not making money because of poor decisions earlier in the year 2019 and late 2018 then yes we will unfortunately have layoffs so they can make back their losses. If finances aren’t in order in an organization then no personal issues will be either, nor will culture confidence last long term. If we can confirm our financials are ok, then we can delay layoffs. Layoffs hurt everyone except the budget. But consumer confidence in the UHG brand matters. That ties to finances. Hopefully we aren’t actually in a financial disaster but are exceeding targets as they claim we are. If so, we should hire back top talent.

Hoping for leaders that the cuts are over. It’s hard to manage teams with anxiety

secrecy breeds distrust and contempt! maybe due to holiday PTO and vacay for staff they choose to just ‘let ‘em figure it out eventually’ ??

They are probably scrambling to save their own butts.... This is extremely stressful. I am worried sick everyday and no one bothers to tell our team anything. I feel so sad about the whole situation.
