Other companies who have cut employee lately have been doing outplacement and helping their employees with connections (heard one company even did a job fair for their layed off employees and invited inside and outside leaders) and give first preference to returning employee applicants. However, I just saw on the post below some layed off workers are reporting being marked ineligible for rehire at UHG Optum and applying for lots of jobs at UHG after being layed off and not receiving even an interview. Has anyone at UHG/Optum received outplacement? What is the rationale at UHG/Optum of not giving preference to their own UHG/Optum layed off worker job applicants and marking inelgible for rehire?

I worked for Optum for 2 1/2 yrs - got let go without anyone telling me even (not kidding). Found out when I tried to log onto my PC. HR tried to rehire me, and got stopped half way through the process. It wasn't a performance issue, and they have trouble now filling the same positions. HR rep expressed frustration with a management that not only sees the employees as disposable, but thinks there is an endless supply of licensed professionals applying to them, and there isn't anymore.
I did get told to try applying and getting on, to sort of "erase" the issue, if possible. I was told there is a 3 to 6 month timeframe before they can do an override and rehire into any part of the UHC/UHG umbrella after Optum did this. Once I get brought back on, I can show a connected work time for them, and look for other employment, either inside the company, or outside, easier, since the "no rehire" tag will be gone.
I have stopped having anyone contact UHG to verify, I provide a website that does that. But, I have not been able to get a job because of their "No Rehire" label! I would advise anyone not to work for a company who has a practice of placing this label on all employees who exit for 3 to 6 months across the board, they way I was told they are doing.
Like others that have commented, I was informed I was eligible for rehire, but never received an offer after interviewing three or four times (to include a video interview), the dishonesty and deviance exhibited on the company's part in my experience is awful.
I worked for years for them and gave my best...only to find out I was being compensated at almost 50 percent less than the market standard, no matter what their salary matrix materials per state say.
Uhc is a crooked company with offshore teams playing too much politics and drama on addition to their on-site partners in crime who constantly harass, discriminate, mistreat and even worse if u are a contractor who dies not even get to report to hr or something
I was laid off October 2019. Ever since then I’ve applied for about 40 different positions and have competed several assessments. I get positive feedback and then boom! I get the denial letter. I guess I’m black listed?? Oh well I guess I’m done trying.
I called HR and asked if I was eligible for rehire and was was told yes. However, I have applied for over ten positions in the last 2 months and have eight rejection letters & completed one video interview. What the heck???
Having a not for rehire on your record can be removed by a good labor attorney. If the company tries to defame an individual, then they will pay for their bad behavior.
Do ya think the performance rating system is bogus? Isn't this company about maximizing profits? If UHG/Optum can recoup (i.e. not pay you what they told you they would) a good accrued bonus , matched and unvested 401k/deferred compensation, don't you think they have this down how to "adjust" your performance to whatever they want? This seems to be a pattern of layoff and recouping of employee income.
What does performance mean in a company that routinely does layoffs November - January , at the end of the year before bonuses, vesting and matches are paid? Seriously....
This whole company uses a ranking system and will let go the bottom folks. It is always a small number so it does not bring attention to itself. Additionally, with all the companies that were bought there is bound to be duplication which is streamlined. Those things combined with moving things over to the Indian office add up to the layoffs you see in here.
There are a ton of positions open, dont let the layoffs fool you. However, if you dont fit the mold you wont be hired.
This company has multiple departments all with their own budget. So it is highly advisable to do research on the department you belong to before accepting the job in this company, otherwise, you will be on this board.
From a healthcare point of view.... Optum is the money maker for UHG, someone needs to look at UHC and summarize the legal rules and regulations. Then look at Optum's relationship with UHC. Modifications need to be proposed to ensure enough separation between the two companies. That relationship needs to be questioned. There are reasons as to why the regulations of the health industry were made and this and other companies found a paper way to exploit the rules. This needs to be reeled back in.
This is 100% true. I was laid off a few years ago. I applied for dozens of jobs under the entire UHG umbrella. The recruiters loved me and I got dozens of calls because my experience and because my yearly evals were always top of the line. Never got a phone or in face interview with any hiring manager.
Don't know whats true but I did hear its very old school for a company to make a person "ineligible for rehire." If your on unemployment, you need to apply for all viable positions and how would anyone ever know if they were marked "ineligible for rehire?"
if this is true, anyone still at optum should get the f— out while they can.
not having the rehire flag can be a kiss of death
