Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Math quiz for CTO

Since the CTO liked doing a math trick during the all hands call. Here is one for him to choke out.

If inflation averages 2% each year for the past 5 years and Windstream employees have only received a single 3% adjustment in the 5th year, are thier wages rising against, staying even or losing value with inflation?

Bonus question, will capable emplyees be appreciative and work harder or be resentful and work less hard?

So my answer is they are losing against inflation by a large margin

Except no raises for the last 5 years. Someone has some special director/VP in this case.

Some people are just cut differently. I would not be able to give myself multi million dollar bonuses while those that work for me have to endure constant layoffs, horrible health benefits and not see any cost of living increases for several years.

The last few years businesses have flourished with the tax cuts. Somehow windstream found a way to epically fail in that environment.

And the non existent health benefits. Shell out $600 per month for coverage with a $4000 deductible, so they dont pay a dime until you shell out over $10K out of pocket. My take home pay is less now then it was 5yrs ago due to tax increases and rising benefit contributions. Going on a second interview Friday, hopefully I wont be at Windstream much longer. After 20yrs with the company its time to move on, goodbye Windstreamers.

Using $60,000 salary as baseline 5 years ago, just to stay even with inflation wages would need to be $66,204 in the 5th year.
However, the Windstrem employees that only got a 3% raise in after 5 years would earn.....$61,800.
So my answer is they are losing against inflation by a large margin
