Sears to open new store in this Boise-area city — but it’ll be smaller than usual-JANUARY 21, 2020 05:00 AM

A Sears Hometown Store is slated to open by Sunday, Feb. 1 in downtown Nampa.

The store will go in at the former Canyon County Habitat for Humanity ReStore building at 1404 1st St. S. and measure 12,500 square feet, according to real estate broker Mike Peña. The Hometown locations are much smaller than their mall counterparts. This one will be 12,500 square feet, compared with the 110,000-square-foot former location at the Boise Towne Square mall, which closed in January 2019.

Their product is more limited, too. The stores sell home appliances like washers, dryers, and dishwashers, as well as lawn and garden equipment, but no linens or clothing like their big-box locations.

Justin O’Donnal, district manager for Sears Hometown, said the company is excited for its new location.

Profits? That is exciting to hear. I wonder what the secret to the sauce was to turn things around that much, given the last large loan of $250MM toward the start of last November.

From Idaho Statesman:

"For now, the downtown Nampa store will be managed by the parent company, although O’Donnal said that he hopes to have it under franchisee management within the next few months."

English translation: They haven't found a franchisee who would be dumb enough to take this on, given the existing franchisees bailing because they can't make any money.

Vendors are fleeing Hometown Stores. Based on Eddie's history with closing stores and losing vendors I give this store a zero chance of surviving.

Eddie couldn't operate a coin machine.

This could be the beginning of something big.

He will probably open a few more Hometown stores and close the full line stores at the same time so it doesn't seem like big news. Eventually he will close the hometowns once all the full line stores are closed by summer.

Wonder what poor old man who doesn't read the news is got conned into pouring his life savings into the franchise fee. Well, not like Eddie isn't known for taking advantage of and screwing over the elderly. So many stories of Sears leaving elderly folks on fixed income without refrigeration, cooking appliances, and heating over the holidays these days, may as well add new franchisees into the mix.

And a full line will close just wait. They’ll open these, fewer people and cheaper to run, has the only categories people buy stuff in. Eventually prices will be the same as the website because there will only be the website and the hometowns.

The story line said, “Sears to open new store in Boise.” Nampa is not Boise!

What merchandise are they planning to sell? Will they ever get anything delivered to them or to the customer?
