Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Looking for Honest HR rep to comment on currently open and posted jobs

Are you guys hiring into those positions or not, if not, why are they still posted and accepting applications? Look for some honest responses here, if that's even possible.

PTO - the max is dependent on the state you live in so 28 is not max.

Posted jobs - some postings are listed in order to keep the department from losing the “backfill” with the hiring freeze. In other cases, governance will prevent the hiring from moving forward despite the process moving forward.

HR - some of them are being laid off too.

many jobs that are posted are being listed so departments can keep their FTE headcount. I don't think they're serious about hiring a lot of people. some of jobs that are posted are the downgraded positions of people that were let go in previous layoff waves. I've seen my old job and the jobs of several laid off coworkers posted in the past month. The positions have all been downgraded a grade level or two.

Who has 35-45 days of PTO? The max is 28.

To the last replier - @4mnx+13BaEdGZ I don't understand the rationale for going to the public, if you can just hire from the layoff - those employees can start immediately and with little to no training? this is anonymous - is there some sort of unwritten command to HR not to hire based on age or salary?

We had a wave of jobs that were sent to our emails and said were "only internal hiring" and were hopeful some of those laid off would be retained in that way. Within a week those same exact jobs were posted on Indeed and open to public. .. ..

To the Centene poster, I have read Centene reviews on indeed.com and you are right, the atmosphere sounds identicle.

I was rehired at a higher grade level and bump in pay (Jan 2 wave). Not saying it’s the norm but I can vouch for it happening

To the OP-Not in HR but it depends on hiring freezes and location and job type. Some are posted taken down and reposted. It helps soften the lay-off blow when you are told to apply for internal jobs because you think they would hire you. So you end up applying times x1000 to no avail. They want you to think they have a chance but most do not. Occasional staff are taken back but it’s rare from what I’ve heard. They typically want you to lose your massive PTO if you’ve gotten up to 35-40 total days and if ever considered for rehire they offer less PTO. Sometimes and often less pay. So it’s a form of discouraging you to want to go back...and I suppose accepting Applications is so they can sift and filter through who they’ve let go and don’t want back and through who hasn’t yet worked here and may be willing to be paid low

Go see Centene layoffs 2020 thread, some prior Optum person posted saying they were a new hire at Centene and described UHG morale as f-ing terrible and why the left. Yea, that pretty much seals the deal when you have prior people posting how bad it is at UHG... and yet all managed care companies are facing layoffs. Is Feb/March going to become the universal lay-off and/or payoff season?
