Ok fellow, SWNers, I just spent the last 25 minutes at the water cooler discussing this hot rumor that I believe is about to hit the presses around here and will rock the greater Energy Drive oil and gas world. This is definitely a game changer if true! The BOD minus one member is voting on this stuff as we speak, at an undisclosed location off campus. Omg, please be true! I won’t say what it is yet so that I don’t jinx it, but you’ll all hear soon enough if it comes true! Keeping fingers crossed. Yaaaassssss!!!!

This kind of makes sense. Needed inventory in NEPA. Probably roll the haynesville into the company also. Makes SWN largest gas company. They would have to assume roughly 3-4 billion in debt without really paying more than the debt notes.

I don't see how a merger at this time will be beneficial with continued sub-economic prices of gas, oil, and debt. The SWN merger would add like 2-2.5~ billion of debt to CHK 9~ billion debt. The economics aren't there right now, if ever.

No denying that a change will occur at SWN since current asset base is too small to be relevant and the company is dying a slow death by 2025. Not enough volume to generate returns to pay for expenses. But merge with CHK seems a bad move for SWN and good for CHK, assuming it's about splitting CHK into two companies. At end, SWN ends up with higher dry gas volume and greater debt. Will mean lots of changes at headquarters level, and would not be surprised to see office move to OKC or Pittsburgh. Why keep it in Texas? Lower travel cost if in PA and lower office rent if in OKC. If CHK emerges with only oil business, can they really pay down debt at current oil price without selling more assets? This whole deal, if true, seems to be far better for CHK and far worse for SWN, but then an utter lack of vision of how to improve SWN lands completely on floor five. Not sure the brainpower on floor five is capable of figuring this out on their own.

Is that it? Is that the big announcement? The big news drop? I have checked this site dozens of times over the last week and if that’s it wowser. Just a bit disappointed. Everyone saw what was the point on the last post when he joined the company in 2011. All are surprised the BOD has not done its job and cut the losses before SWN is toast of a company.

Agree with the last post. Gotta say I enjoyed the time at SWN. About to take another job with a legit E&P. We are as that last post said a complete joke and led by the biggest hack of a CEO and his cherry picked failures from EP and Sandridge. My stock grant losses pale in comparison to Nill Pay or whatever you want to call him as he will never compete and win. Nop sorry not sorry, I've never worked for SWN and never will. I've got bigger fish to fry than some little old pure gas driller that no one takes seriously in the industry anymore. Yes, the rest of the industry watches and laughs at SWN's pathetic attempt to become a big boy.

I’ve been collecting unemployment benefits in Arkansas and just using the term “arkanreject” as my justification for not finding new gainful employment. It has been working for a year now!

With my bonus money should I buy CHK stock? Survived every layoff and want to survive any merger. So glad we dumped the “Arkenrejects”. Sorry can’t say the other word as I have a special needs child. Thank goodness for the truth and honesty on this board. I am checking this site hourly or more to hear the big news. So excited.

SWN shareholders would lose big if a merger would occur with Chesapeake. There is no way such a proposition would do anything other than further destroy value for SWN shareholders beyond what has already happened. Even if you split CHK into two companies, one focused on oil and the other on gas, there is that $10 billion in CHK debt question. SWN can't assume a portion of this debt to run the gas business since it's at the limit it can handle for debt (already owes more than $5 bill), and CHK can't assume at $10 billion in debt for its oil business. With gas expected to stay around $1.80-$2.20 for several years, how can SWN ever expect to repay debt? With oil around $50, how could CHK? This is a bonehead idea from the likes of David, CC, "Julian get the stretch", and Nill Pay. Somebody better tell Doug to run the hell away from this disaster in waiting. Cathy K. doesn't know what she is doing and she needs to be booted too. Being an accountant doesn't qualify you to grow a business, only cut costs – which is super easy sweetheart.

What is sad is that the people who work their a– off for this company can read these anonymous comments. These people are blue collar, hard working people from all over the US, including Arkansas.( or r—ds as you like to call them)
We can tell you work in Houston. That's pretty sad that someone in a position like that is making statements about the people who bust their a– for this company and to feed our families. This company has went so far down hill in the leadership department it's not even funny anymore. I'm ashamed to even say i work here anymore.

I read these threads and really speaks about how terrible the culture is at SWN, constant fear-mongering backed by baseless facts that make no sense or fare outright made up.

The big reveal is a merger announcement. It's been in the works for about a year now and it finally got done. Sorry folks but there is no other way to get out of this mess. Expect Nill Pay to move on and take his millions all the way to the bank.

To be someone's aquisition there has to be a buyer, do you truly believe there is a buyer out there? Why would someone buy the company when they can just go pick up Chevron's assets in the Marcellus that come without the debt, without the people, without the headaches that would be associated with picking up SWN. You would have to be dumber than SWN to buy SWN. I find that hard to believe.

More than likely the big news is a dramatic reduction in reserves value. Enterprise value for SWN likely dropped by more than $1 billion due to lower commodity prices. Which means company is less likely an acquirer and more likely an acquisition.

I can’t wait til I get my bonuses so I can finally put in my 2 weeks. SWN is a flippin joke. Purge the ELT and ArkTardz and you may rectify the situation.

Compensation statements and promotions come out this week. We also find out how much silly Billy gets in LTIs for all the success he has had in the last year. I mean we are at a 52 week low, again for stock price for like the 3rd year in a row. He deserves a giant bonus, raise, and LTI since we are so fortunate for having him and all the mo–ns he has brought on board to the ELT. The only one worse is that terrible woman who hired him and is a terrible waste of G&A as she is an SVP whose only responsibility is to have 2 SVPs report to her.
