PTO Accruals when no notice is given

I'm aware that UHG does not pay out any accruals. So, if one zeros out their time and then leaves without giving any notice, can they do anything to you?

(Beyond putting you on the Do Not Rehire list)

What if you are on PTO and give notice that your last day will be the day your were supposed to return to work?

@9lfu - People get flagged. It's known. I know a former mgr who applied for over 70 jobs during a 6 month span she was more than qualified for. She was told unofficially by HR she was a flagged former employee. During one UHG interview she received denial email DURING said interview.

There is no blacklist. People have left before with no notice and have been rehired. Take your PTO then come back and you can resign but I would try to give a week at least if you can.

Take your PTO and give your two weeks notice afterwards. I found that if you disclose that you are going to work for a competitor, they will pay you two weeks paid leave and terminate your employment immediately. Mainly because it’s a conflict of interest so I would weigh that option as well.

I used to hold 40hrs of PTO for the next year just in case, but not anymore! I use every single minute of it. I'm not giving this vampire of a company a single minute of my accrued time. I have nothing but contempt for the upper management of this company.

Once you give notice, PTO is not available to you. Check the HR policies. I know of a person that lost their planned PTO by giving notice a week before it. They lost it.

If you are out on PTO and give notice stating that your last day will be the day you were supposed to return to work, UHC may say that your last day of employment is the day that you gave notice–basically an immediate termination. That means you'd only get paid up until the day you gave notice and wouldn't get paid through the end of your planned PTO.

So you have a couple options:

  1. Take all your PTO and then give notice when you come back. You can give 2 weeks or just quit that day.
  2. If you have a job offer, you may want to cut your losses and just be done with UHC. You can also go back to the employer with the job offer and ask for extra PTO time or a pay bump for the PTO that you'll be losing.
  3. Cross your fingers that you get on the March severance list and you get a decent severance package.

No, they cannot do anything. It is ridiculous they are that way when you have worked your booty off. I am taking allllll my pto, going to be in the negative by 8 and give no notice. I dont feel bad about that. They dont.

You lose your PTO if you put in your resignation just prior to your PTO. You can't take PTO during your notice period, even if it was approved beforehand.

Nothing happens ... it’s always best to give notice and I think it’s perfectly acceptable to put your resignation in just prior to your PTO dates .
