Hanover BGCO Elementary School

Has anyone else notice that Hanover, MD (BGCO) call center is operating like a elementary school. All of last year our employee experience team (who ever they are) hosted events that my 6 year old daughters school would have planned (The Circus, Dress Up like a Disney character, ETC) I thought the new year would be a little different but still the same ole elementary school themed events. Can I be treated like an adult and not a kid please...

I wonder how much of this carried over from Alltel. Grade school frivolities were very common at Alltel in Alpharetta, pre-Verizon. The first week I was on the team, work came to a halt for 2 or 3 hours so everyone could (must) participate in-get this-a scavenger hunt. A few weeks later, we were "invited" to celebrate a successful release with bowling and roller skating. Doesn't sound too bad on the surface until you consider that roller skating and adults who have never skated don't go too well together. Needless to say, one poor chap broke his leg. I'm sure the corporate lawyers were rather upset because we never repeated that particular event again.
The most insulting event of all was when we were required to spend a half-day at a local park where the "Fun Team" had hired a kiddie event company to set up a dozen or so kiddie games that we were strongly encouraged to participate in, never mind the fact it was 90 degrees and every single manager chose to sit in the shade while we "children" played.
Ah, the Fun Team. That consisted of a certain segment of employees (mainly project managers) who didn't really want to work and apparently thought planning silly activities actually exhibited their managerial skills. Even as project managers, no one could figure out what they did other than track hours, ask for the occasional status, and thank everyone for a job well done at project end. Most of the team never even knew that a project manager was even assigned to a project, and when told, they'd ask, "You mean that person that's always planning the pizza parties?"
Grow up, Corporate America, treat your employees with dignity and fire every person on sight who suggests starting a Fun Team.

I used to see those kind of elementary school events at the BGCO in Alpharetta and always wondered if that was the only way they had to keep employees, were the employees worth keeping.

I'm sure most people have better things to worry about.

I see these events they hold at BR and Piscataway and wonder “who has time to do this stuff”. I’m literally up to my ears in work day in and day out.
