Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

Campus Hires

Seems as though it’s time of year where a number of our friends at the company like to critique our army of “fast track campus hires”

Well - no surprise - I belong to that group. I’ve been promoted before too. I certainly agree that some of us are just quota fillers, but I’m ultimately curious as to what’s so undesirable about younger talent in the company to some. What can you tell me?

Nothing wrong with Campus talent. The program has improved as they used to promote the ones that fail faster due to the program not being able to fail. They stopped doing that and mixed in the front line career program to get a good mix. People complaining about campus are just looking for something to complain about. You could work here for 10 years that does not make you a expert for doing the same thing year over year. It’s all about how people were raised. You either were taught work ethic or not I have seen young and old with it or without it .

Bad and impossible plans are given on purpose so they can justify poor raises.

Campus hires are not a problem. There are always a few bad apples.

To whoever had a bad plan, you’re the one with a bad plan??? I have been looking for you, I heard you were the person who Pepsico gave a bad, unattainable plan to.

Almost every person in the broader organization gets impossible plans.

Campus hires are fine IMO. I can relate to the horrible path guy. “Quantifying and exposing” are the jobs of senior leadership also IMO. The nonsense shouldn’t be put forth in the first place I reckon. To that end you are wasting people’s time trying to help your boss figure her job.

@horrible path:

Impossible plans are the growing pains of our business. When you work for and with a large collective of people who are segregated by function that each are tasked with savings and growth you often times end up with unattainable scenarios.

Learn how to quantify and expose the nonsense you’re tasked with and your executive team will look elsewhere. No leader will want to engage with you if you can explain the details around the impossibility of your plan.

Most of these people only focus on themselves getting the next promotion. They aren’t in a role long enough to learn anything, but think they do.

Younger talent is great, but they often lack the experience needed to make effective decisions.
The real danger is when they can implement strategy. I was given a horrible path to achieve my numbers last year. If you complain or do something different, you’re deemed uncoachable or have a bad attitude.
There’s a reason our business keeps slipping and it’s these one path, narrow minded managers who are learning as they go.
