Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Rudderless ship!

Ahoy there matey this be the Macy’s ship, we don’t know our a– from our elbow at the top!! Case in point, stores were given a list of support associates who’s jobs were eliminated. We were told to have those conversations with those effected by today Friday. I personally had to have these tough conversations with these impacted associates and it was hard to say the least.
Lo and behold today we get an email stating that the company wasn’t going to cut so many support jobs after all and more info coming soon. So now the company has to honor severance package offers to associates who’s jobs were actually not cut. Pure gold, you dolts...

I don't get this either–why would you get severance if you still have a job? If you choose to leave and your job was left untouched that's your problem. You don't get severance because someone upset you .

Severance is not honored because they were REMOVED from the event. Not eligible any longer. Why is this so hard to understand?

Just received confirmation from HR that it is not being honored now. So if still bc they changed their minds about jobs. Only those who still lose their jobs will get it. I still lost 2 people in support it would of been a total of 8 but they came back and kept 6 and I asked the question today and those 6 who get to stay no longer can get severance if they want to leave.

Did you consider that these people making the “literally” statements might both be correct in that people in leadership positions within separate districts and regions are giving out contradictory information because there is no proper communication within the chain of command? Also, state laws vary so what may apply to one location may not apply in another state.

“ Really? I literally just got off the phone with district leadership and it is being honored so no idea what you’re talking about. If they decide they want the severance it is being honored. You can’t sit someone down tell them they’re eliminated let them stew on that for 72 hours and then say “oh my fault, you’re position isn’t eliminated and yeah that severance is gone.” Go ahead and try that and see what happens.”

And we LITERALLY got off the phone with our district leadership and it is NOT being honored. So yes I know what I’m talking about. The jobs are not being cut, the associates are not losing their jobs, they aren’t severance eligible because all those cuts are no longer happening and have been pulled out of the process. I get to keep my PT receiving team and if anyone of them decided to quit they would not get paid anything.

This is highly entertaining reading. If they’re forced to pay out additional severance and then keep/fill positions anyway, any savings the cuts were going to produce is negated. I hope potential investors read this site.

People must stand up and demand that they are compensated with their severance. There will be a next time and it will not be a MISTAKE or WHOOPS!!! Again, lives and people's health are impacted by such news and treatment. If you have a store manager who is a BULLY, they will try to get one over you. Stand up for your rights and sanity please !!!

Our HR district rep stated NO severance because they are no longer eligible, their jobs are not being cut so there's nothing to severance. Even if they were told they were loosing their job, they aren't now so no severance. This info was given to all the store managers in our district. No severance now for these folks, they aren't loosing their jobs.

Macy's needs to get their act together.
These are people but then again they took the human out of HR when they laid off all store HR and went to 1-800 HR Wow that works !!!!
Bad move Macy's !!!

When the budgets first came out our district team told central ops that the receiving staffing plans were unrealistic and that we would never be able to unload trucks with the few people left on the dock. We had a visit from the head of operations a few months ago and he didn't want to listen, just talk at us about what we were supposed to be doing. When is the last time these people actually worked in a Macy's store?

We were told that we will no longer be getting hours for support work based on our workload like we have for the seven years that I have worked here, but going forward it will be a weekly budget like we did through the holiday savings initiative. We can expect to not have enough hours to complete the work and still be expected to do so.

Most likely honoring severance based on union and or state laws. I don’t know but guessing as to why some locations are honoring and others are not.

This is why the company isn’t going to last. HR leadership is incompetent.

@13aL8vxo-mln They actually did do that to me one year (told me I was laid off and then a week later called me and said oops never mind). Then they put a guilt trip on me because I was saved and the other person wasn't.

I will say though that during that one week, I felt like I had the biggest burden lifted off of me.

You delivered the conversations and if the colleague wants the severance it’s not an option? That doesn’t sound right at all.

Guess it depends in which store you work because it is NOT being honored at my store. This company should be ashamed .... do you know what it’s like to tell someone they are being displaced and then turn around and say “Whoops! Never mind!” Leadership at Macy’s is incredibly ignorant. Who messes with peoples minds like that?!

You were told wrong about the severance being honored. It IS NOT honored for them because they are being removed from the “event”. Even if you told them they would get severance, they WILL NOT whether they remain or decide to quit anyway.

It’s literally episode one of the office when Pam gets fake fired. The stores were given a list of say ten people who’s jobs were eliminated and we had those conversations. Now today after having those conversations and these associates thinking the worst we get an email saying wait we actually aren’t eliminating that many jobs more to follow. And we have to honor the severance offers to those people even if their job is now not eliminated. I can’t really spell it out any easier and if you can’t follow that’s on you.
