Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Let’s look at the numbers!

I was looking at the up tv and noticed some numbers that surprised me.
It stated we had 95% loco availability with a goal of 93% meaning we are exceeding goal. It also said we had 676 trains holding for power. What I don’t understand is we were supposed to be right sizing the fleet to reflect our work load. Doesn’t seem that way when we have 676 trains holding for power and above goal on loco availability.
Seems if we were to right size the fleet we would need more loco for power or am I looking at this all wrong.

Common sense is not only not required, but is actually not acceptable!

We do have 95% loco availability. 95% are in storage and available if we ever get the customers back we ran off. 😂

I could be wrong but waiting power doesn’t necessarily mean we don’t have the locomotives to run them. It means the locomotives just aren’t there or available yet. They may be there in five minutes, an hour, three hours. If they had brought extra locomotives in service to run those trains then they probably would end up at the destination with nowhere to go and would sit idle. Meaning even though it’s probably not costing anything for them to sit in the yard somewhere it is causing downtime

So if it means fleet vs shopped. Then 5% are shopped for work right. Then we still dont have enough loco in the fleet to run the trains. We are running somewhere around 3800-4000 units. So that’s anywhere from 3610-3800 units running the in the fleet Right now. So if we were at 100% availability would we have enough unit to pull the 676 trains holding for power?

Just asking I don’t understand?
If this is wrong explain it if you would.
