Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Don't do them any favors!

They are trying to get people to quit so they don’t have to have the bad press from actually going through with the layoffs, the notice is from the glass palace and they definitely approved of it. 3,000 people are going to lose their job this year don’t do the dirty work for the glass palace force them to lay you off then you get insurance for 4 months and unemployment quit you get nothing but the vacation pay

Exactly what @dgv+13lqiWOP said. If you quit for any reason now, you are just saving UP money and leaving with nearly empty pockets. Why in the world would anybody do that is beyond me.

Don’t let people like this stop you from quitting. It was a hard decision to make but was also the most beneficial option. I had almost seven years in and watched every job worth having get abolished. Now hearing about ARASA jobs being eliminated is a two fold blow. Not only are you going to have managers in positions that were once guys promoted from the craft, once the foreman place themselves it just sends more of the young guys home. If you have something lined up that you are considering going to, jump and jump fast. The longer you wait and listen to old heads talk about how it was with mergers and buy outs, the guys that lost 10 to 15 years who now have to work until their mid sixties just to get their railroad time. The longer you wait to make the move, the harder it will be.

I agree with the first comment. I have another job to go to. I signed up for the vacation waiver because it was available. It didn’t matter if I got it or not because I’m still leaving. Now, I will leave using a different route.

Why? So they can start a new job if the have one lined up with a few extra bucks in their pocket. For some it’s a good deal, others it’s not. Each person should decide based on their individual circumstance. It’s not a one size fits all offer.
