Thread regarding Southwestern Energy Co. layoffs

Layoffs were needed. What else could be done to save SWN?

I hate that people have lost jobs, but it was a necessary move. In fact, I think the cuts should have been steeper. We still have far, far too many VP's and too many layers of management. Executive pay needs to be cut. Engineering is overstaffed. HR should be outsourced. Our leadership team could learn to make decisions on their own instead of spending money on "The Bob's". The building we are in is akin to someone making $30k/yr driving a brand new 7-series. What else?

Just remember your friendly HR SVP brought in your wonderfully underwhelming CEO. They are tight.

One of the basic issues at SWN is micro-management by an insecure leader who rules by fear. This, in turn, creates a leadership team environment where all simply nod and agree out of fear of job loss or further humiliation. Anyone who offers an opposing view (Jennifer, Ron, Sonny) finds themselves on a short list. HR contributes to this mess by simply parroting everything the leadership center says and validating it. HR is full of incompetents, as are most company HR departments, of weak people who will say or do anything to keep their jobs. But the problem starts at who you put in charge. If SWN were a well-managed company, this would have been addressed in cultural surveys. Oh wait, whatever happened to the results of the employee engagement survey? Or the plan to add an ombudsman? Or create leadership skills training? Or any real training or any kind? Look to your friendly HR team of backstabbers and incompetents.

You are correct...way to many executives and VP’s with most making an annual salary of one million. Morale is bad at every location but he will give a speech on moving forward and picking up the pieces and act like things are great at SWN. HR could cut their deot in half and that would be plenty HR staff to support the current workload/employees. Suzy is just trying to make a name for herself and be noticed but in the process is making herself look bad.
