Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Get rid of the stress and uncertainty and make the change you know you need to

I was one of those people that would have probably spent my entire career at Windstream. I was there a decade and a half before I was unceremoniously shown the door. I spent a few months absorbing the situation, then spend a few more months learning new skills. Now I'm in a job that pays 17% more than my Windstream salary and I'm happier than I've ever been in my new role. It s—s to leave a comfortable situation but the best thing to ever happen to me was to be let go from Windstream. I would encourage you to not wait for a severance that may never come or to stay for the vacation time. The first thing you learn when looking for a job is that it is much easier to find a job when you already have one. Also, if you're like me then staying for the severance will actually cost you more than just getting that new job with a higher salary now. Get rid of the stress and uncertainty and make the change you know you need to.

I think a monkey with a dartboard that was half yes and half no would have done better than these leaders.

Leadership has demonstrated that taking undeserved money is the norm at WS. You are either working the screwdriver or being worked by the screwdriver. Save your morality lectures as something to do when you’re laid off Or on your 10th smoke break.

working another job while taking a WS paycheck for no work. That's sad. about as much morality as our 'leaders'

Agreed. I know of alot of people working from home and doing very little work. They will never leave. Some of the engineers were getting jobs elsewhere and working two jobs, both 9am-5pm lol. Just bring your windstream laptop to work with you and check your phone, login as needed. I have been doing that for just over 1yr!!! Hahaha

I think the biggest reason why people stay is that half the company works from home now and its a huge benefit for alot of people. If that was not a factor half the company would be looking for new jobs.

Several of us were shown the door in 2018. We were given the opportunity to take the severance or leave now. I took the severance and left when our last day came about a month and a half later. I am glad to be gone from that place. Of those who were not affected by the downsizing. So many stayed, but quite a few have left for other jobs. So far everybody that has got a new job is getting paid much better than what WS was paying everybody. So stay if you want to. But going to work each day wondering if today will be the day, or will they fire us at the end of the week.. That's no way to live.
