seekingalpha.com: Verizon the loser as Sprint/T-Mobile win - analyst

Verizon (VZ -2.3%) is the "net loser" from T-Mobile's and Sprint's court win, analyst Craig Moffett writes, chiefly due to the respective spectrum situations among major carriers.

It's no secret that Verizon needs midband spectrum to proceed with 5G deployment, he says, and the merger going forward "takes not just one, but two spectrum options off the table."

Verizon bet exclusively on millimeter wave, leaving it without a good answer now except to bet on C-band, he adds - and that will take years to deliver usable spectrum in smaller areas.

Other carriers today: AT&T (NYSE:T) -0.5%; Sprint (NYSE:S) +72.5%; T-Mobile (NASDAQ:TMUS) +10.9%.

The 5G boondoggle...and yet there are two other telecommunication companies pulling fiber to the prem in the Verizon franchise area I live in. What happens when the companies can abandon copper and Verizon finds out their once landline customers don't what the 3G, 4G or 5G wireless NIDs because they have fiber service to their house that was provided by another company?

The real shame is that everyone wants Fios, whereas 5G doesn’t change anyone’s day at all. Too bad Verizon bet on Their own thinking with the bandwidth, they knew going in that there were big problems, but they felt they could overcome them. If Verizon still had something like Bell Labs, they probably could. But they were outmaneuvered on this one.
Now they are playing “catch up” with a technology that isn’t even in place.
Brilliant.
Meanwhile, people stop me several times a week asking when they’ll get Fios. Have to tell them we don’t do that anymore. What a disaster.

Thankfully there is no need or demand for 5G, so it not working doesn’t change much.
It’s a totally frivolous product that no one is waiting for.

Plan B:

Let’s call it 6G and hope no one asks questions
But 5G doesn’t work.

Yes, but we have 6G, see?
