Except that most of GIT operations are things like client services. Laptop configurations, software delivery, IP phones, networking, etc. A portion of GIT is dedicated to the server side, and they still have to maintain and patch those as well, but the majority has to maintain the client side.

Only shortsighted execs hellbent on quarterly profits will use cloud as an excuse to decimate the IT ranks. It’s a tool. Use it like a fine carving implement to create something, not like a saw to lop off critical limbs.

Fewer will have to learn to more with less. That's the motto. Tighten the belts boys and girls and if you don't have one, go get a rope, hemp is better than nylon, although it can burn the neck.
So the generals at the top of the pyramid, have no clue, surprise, surprise. This will lead to an explosion in 90 days or less. The upper echelon do not understand the complexity of deploying Oracle software, nor the myriad of failure scenarios, nor how to triage, or how to debug/fix. This will be fun to watch. Smart investors, as soon as this layoff occurs, it's time to short.

Not surprised, common belief among C level execs is that once you move everything to the cloud you don't need most of the IT staff.

Isn't that one of the main points to the value proposition in moving to the cloud, that you will save money by having a smaller IT staff?

And I am sure they are being charged a premium price, too. When I was there When I was there a number of services owners were complaining about exactly that.

Now that Oracle is running the biz on its own cloud, what could go wrong???

Love this. The dumb leading the dumber. That's oracle.

It’s always been that way. Do all the work get the ball moving and then we here budget cuts. They have no clue what goes on in the day to day of infrastructure support that runs the company.

That wouldn't surprise me. Global IT is viewed as a money drain as opposed to a revenue generator. Never mind they keep the lights on.

Looks like they got wheeled under CM to meet their maker.

Yes, oracle IT, that's the ticket. I can definitely see how SC would cut that, since she doesn't have a clue how anything works. That will surely make Oracle "efficient", right?

I can second that. We all know it’s coming. If you don’t your blind to the past. Better buckle up and get ready for the ride. Get out while you still can. Don’t set back and do nothing or you will be left with your pants down. The big O ship has already started sinking and it’s steadily taking on more and more water. Don’t be one of the last to jump off the ship.
