Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Open Plan office. In building built in 1980s and converted to open. So overcrowded theres

always a line for the bathroom any time of day. Building designed for maybe 1,500. Has 2,500 in it now. People blowing noses in the bathroom sinks. Eating/preparing/storing food everywhere. No way for social distance. Not good.

Likely Basking Ridge. Was built in the early 80's for AT&T's world headquarters, then sold to Verizon in the 90's. 2,500 people? Try anywhere between 3,000 and 5,000. We had a hiring freeze for Basking Ridge last year because the local fire marshal realized how many more people we were cramming in the ewok village and clamped down. Then there was a car fire in an underground parking garage and the sh– really hit the fan. Picture Mat Ellis being taken to the mat by a local fire marshal.

Someone in building 5 south was diagnosed positive and word went out yesterday. "Leadership" (I hate the term – they're managers, not my leaders) should have done work from home 2 weeks ago. Technology leaders like Google and Amazon did work from home for 100's of thousands of workers weeks ago. The first direction from senior management was, 'use your best discretion.' What a load of ignorant, selfish, b—s—. The next day when the sh– hit the fan, then it was, stay home, and even then some managers were like, 'stay home, but I'll be in the office.' Not leader-like behavior. And then a positive diagnosis and a scramble to really emphasize to work from home.

This is not going away in a matter of weeks. It slows, hopefully, if people pay attention. But it's with us for a long time. Vaccines take months and months just to prove they work and are safe, at even a n excelerated pace like now.

I'm working from home till this is over, and I encourage everyone around me to do the same.
