Thread regarding SAS Institute layoffs

"SAS has never had layoffs" --Jim Goodnight

this is a blatant lie. how can someone be allowed to repeat this BS?

as of Q1 2020...i speak from first-hand knowledge...people get RIF'd from SAS all the time...RIF = LAYOFF, that is the TRUTH.

SAS has and continues to lay off employees. From 2020 to current, they have systematically eliminated large numbers within all areas of operations. That is typically indicative of plans to sell a company. This is not the typical "reduce costs" actions of the past to make the $$ look better.

No layoffs.. they fired over 200 people in Heidelberg back in 2006, all in the name of globalization, as petty exec squabbling trampled on lot of loyal employees lives

Sorry, I’ve been at SAS for over 20 years. There aren’t “layoffs”. If you end up in a role that is no longer needed or you aren’t a great employee, guess what? You are going to be let go. That’s just business. Dr. Goodnight has kept the company private for this long to protect employees from the wholesale layoffs you see at other tech giants every time there is a bad quarter. I feel lucky to be in a place that thinks of the employees first.

This is not a lie, but a difference in point of view.

If you've been laid off, from your viewpoint it's painful and personal. But from Jim Goodnight's viewpoint, his company has not shrunk. SAS is about the same size it was several years ago.

From the corporate viewpoint – from Wall Street's viewpoint – a "layoff" is what Cisco just did. Their sales are down, so they laid off 9% of their workforce.

Jim Goodnight is rightly proud he has never done this. Certainly, the pandemic gives him an excellent excuse for it. But he is choosing to take the financial hit instead.

It's a semantic game they play for good PR; they're the master at that. Being Schabenbuggered is frustrating. Many feel your pain and frustration. Although it feels personal, it wasn't personal. They are failing and unwilling to look in the mirror to find the problems. Rejoice that you got out alive.

Now isn’t the time for petty b—s—. If you got out and found another job be glad. If you didn’t, be glad you still have a job a paycheck and insurance and then shut the f— up too.
