  • The supercomputing power will be available to help researchers develop predictive models to analyze how the disease is progressing as well as model new potential therapies or a possible vaccine.

I totally agree with the comments below regarding when companies use a bad situation to somehow get some spin, try and get good publicity out of it and attempt to profit from it. In IBMs case, I dont know what numb-nut thought this would be a good idea, when the medical industry knows "Watson" doesn't exactly inspire any confidence after the fiasco from a few years ago.

IBM quantum computer identified over 60 chemical compounds

I seriously doubt this .. it would have been all over the news. Are you referring to the Summit supercomputer news? Words matter. Summit is definitely NOT quantum - it is a large traditional computer.

It WOULD be really cool if quantum computers could be used to identify promising medical stuff ... but that is years away and will likely come from some other company not IBM, even if IBM is still in business.

for all of the negative posters on here, the IBM quantum computer identified over 60 chemical compounds that could be used to fight this virus.

It's disgusting to see any company take a pandemic and try to just get good publicity out of it. It's not just IBM though. There are other industry giants that are doing this as well.

In the end, I think this will come back to haunt these companies.

The last time Big Blew "unleashed" it's Watson "supercomputer" on the medical industry, it nearly drove MD Anderson Cancer Center into insolvency. Why would this time be any different?
