D you know any layoffs is going to happen in IBM research in incoming months with regards to New CEO or covid ?
Have heard layoffs in IBM research in the past ? Esperically YKT and Albany.

Can you elaborate this more ? I thought there are many startups over there to collabrate for new generation NVM. So wouldn't it help IBM research stronger for possible lay-offs ?
The little fab in Albany, NY, is pretty much an industry joke. It looks good for PR but not much else.
The power house patent people have left or retired .
I doubt the industry or stock holders would notice if it closed.
IBM new CEO mentioned in a meeting the ATT Tech Dev employees that were outsourced with a one year contract with IBM which will end 09/01/2020. Upper Management could request a 1 year extension on our contract and if the contract is granted we will have jobs for another year.
Ic. What is the business plan of IBM research. I mean how you make the money for the company? do you think ibm research continue its road as spin-off ?
Many of the oldest employees are in research, so they are of course targets.
On the other hand, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and many other companies continue to hire away existing, and win away potential new hires, so research is understaffed.
Anything is possible at this point. COVID-19 has made everyone a target and we are all sitting ducks for AK to execute. Who knows how we will come out of this, it's rather depressing just thinking about it.
