Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford As A Zombie Company

A zombie company is a company that needs bailouts in order to operate, or an indebted company that is able to repay the interest on its debts but not repay the principal. How does Ford escape this fate?

I am a Ford retiree and check this board from time to time. I also have friends who still work there and want to see them and the company do well. It doesn’t seem that leadership has improved since I retired.

@1xuo I still have friends at Ford I am concerned with. Most of them feel lucky they still have jobs and yet leadership talks in riddles so they have no idea what the hell is going on. I still visit this board because it is more useful than Hatchet and his fantasy world of unicorns and rainbows.

"I was SRDd in May of last year. I had to relocate. In doing so, I received a $30k pay raise"

If were let go year ago, then why are you on this board?

Ford HR still has the mindset that it's a privilege to work for Ford. Their 401k matching is less than industry standard. There is no more retirement. Everyone I know had to take a pay cut to be converted from agency to Ford. They think the less than cost of living yearly raises and small bonus make up for it. The benefits are the same as when I was a contractor and I actually made more, because they were forced to pay me overtime.

IT salaries at Ford are low. The game is bring in an IT person good raises until you hit 4th quartile which for a good person is 2 or 3 years. Then for the rest of your career 1-3% raise and parked as a GSR 8 or a tech spec LL6. People realize no matter what they do 2% raise and declining benefit packages, so slacker nation is the result. Seriously it takes 9 months to a year to implement a two week project. The motivated and talented move on after 2 or 3 years.
In the end IT at Ford is overpaid based on results. There is a whole lot of slacking going on. It has been funny as heck watching the arrogant slackers realize they actually have to work eight hours a day and show results when they find employment elsewhere. A good dose of reality for some.
The LL5+ IT are grossly overpaid. Others on the forum have stated that half of the LL should go. The era of massive leadership tree should of ended in the 1970s. Chopping levels 5 and 3 would be a good start.

Ford actually pays IT relatively well for the area. I'm getting 100k as a SE with 2 years experience.

Cut salaries, y'all get paid more than people in silicon valley while living in a LCOL area. You can afford it.

J Mays was with Audi before Ford so he wasn't there that long. True story I worked with a designer in studio who went to same design school same time as J. Long story short he helped J. with some of his assignments long before J. even got his first job in design.

It doesn't - Ford has been operating like a the US government has for years. Run up debt, start to pay it down, run into issues (of it's own making), run up more debt, things start to look up, hit another bad patch, run up more debt....spin, cycle, rinse, repeat - for over 20 + years now. I know 'cause that is how long I have been with this company, and the stock price has never been higher than since when I joined up.

Come to think of it, I MUST be the problem them. I should myself go and collect on of those golden handshakes/parachutes that are laying around someplace in the basement of PDC....maybe next to j. Mayes old draft board. (True story - was wandering around PDC once and found some old drafting /design boards, and one had J Mays labeled on it)
