Thread regarding SeaWorld Entertainment Inc. layoffs

New Pay Period

Only SEA can send out a last minute email telling how they plan to disrupt how and when we get paid and make it sound like it's for our benefit. Looking at this, they plan do do a short pay week of three days. However, if you don't work those three day, its 21 days between pay days. Absolute stupidity once again from SEA executives.

Subject: Pay Cycle Enhancements

Ambassadors –

We’re excited to share an enhancement to our pay period cycle that will allow for more flexibility for Ambassadors and Timekeepers. We’re transitioning from our traditional Monday-Sunday model, and moving to Thursday-Wednesday pay cycle. This change will allow departments more time after busy weekends in the parks to wrap up necessary payroll entries and edits prior to the close of a pay period.

What does this mean for me?

·        Moving forward, your pay period will begin on a Thursday and end on a Wednesday (every two weeks)

·        Paychecks will be received on Thursday rather than Friday

·        In order to complete this transition, we’re creating a “mini pay period” of only three days. During this three day pay period, no deductions will be taken other than employee 401(k) deductions and payroll taxes. This pay period will be for April 27-29th and you will receive a paycheck for these 3 days on May 7th.Please see calendar visuals below for key dates and milestones.

·        The next pay period will begin April 30th and end on May 13th.  Your check for this period will be paid on May 21st.

·        If this change causes you any financial hardship due to timing,  please reach out to your local Human Resources Team to discuss options.

·        As always, please send any questions you may have to HR@SeaWorld.com

What ladder is still left to climb? There used to be a great career ladder with this company with positions you could aspire to achieve. Now it’s last man standing. Most of the “Senior Leaders” were just put in the jobs because they were lucky enough to be left standing when higher paid leaders with lots of seniority and years with the company were laid off or moved out. This company is embarrassing, has no respect in the community or theme park industry. SR will run it into the ground.

@ Not a corporate troll -

Sounds like someone is a little... triggered there. You ok?

I posted early my disagreement with getting upset on this particular thing but there is still PLENTY to be p-ss-d off about. My guess is you have not been with the company very long or you might actually have seen the differences and understand where we are coming from. Perhaps you also have never had to decide to put off medical decisions because it was that or pay for food/rent. Never devoted 10+ years to a company to have them lay you off because people were doing insider trading and denying the effects of a movie. I mean it might be tough to be empathetic to others especially when you see how other companies are treating their employees but hey, my guess is you are too busy trying to work that ladder to care right?

One huge thing about the comment you made about climbing the ladder is that not everyone can and will succeed at that and that does not excuse a company treating its employees like sh–. Also a large amount of us, if not most do not have issues with people who succeed on the climb. We just do not take kindly to when thousands of people get laid off with no benefits (and face it, cobra is NOT a benefit) and then the company turns around and pays money out to a small handful of people to "get them to stay"? "reward for the work at the company"? Only an a– kisser would sit there and defend that.

But hey, you wanna find out who we are and get rid of us? How about you share who you are because I am sure how you speak on social media is a -great- image for the company to promote with.

To Tired of the Negativity -
Let us know if you get brought back with the same pay and benefits. I mean, I am sure we are better off in the end when we constantly get things taken from us but hey you know, it will all work out for us all right?

@tiredofthenegativity- In no way am I a corporate troll, wish I was and could find out names of all who constantly complain, would get rid of your asses. If you don’t like what the company is doing move on or better yet STFU and put in the time,do the work, and climb the ladder. Or keep complaining like the little b–ch your momma raised and continue to live in her basement. You probably struggle daily to pour milk in your cereal without her help. I’m sure this will trigger you and the others that can’t handle the truth.

I am glad you support Scott Ross my hat goes off to you.
Furloughed 95% of the park employees which cut off all medical because sea world could not afford.

Then purchasing 6.8 million in stocks to make more money while the park is in debt with loans and unpaid vendors.

Other theme parks continued medical and to many much needed.

So you support Mr Ross while he sleeps at night with no conscience.

I support all the tough decisions Scott has had to make to steer this company in the right direction. I’m sure we will all be better off in the end. Just try to keep focused on the future and quit crying in the meantime.

I’m so tired of negativity and complaining! Let me call someone stupid and complain! Real positive there dipsh!t!!

Don’t read these posts if they’re making you sad. Go hang out with the board members or Scott Ross if you want to find the few people in the company who are wearing big smiles these days. I’m sure their doors are wide open for visitors!

To: "Tired of the Negativity" - please, tell us of the positive you suggest in your post. Tell us about the wonders you see through your rose colored glasses regarding SEA.

I have no problem with change; the new pay period included. However, the implementation of said change is another story. From the manner and timing of the notice, to the sudden implementation of the new schedule, SEA has once again poorly executed changes in policy and procedures.

The poster of this comment most likely isn’t even working at the moment, but instead is looking for another reason to b–ch, moan, and groan. Instead of feeding the negative how about feed your co workers with positive things. Negative breeds negative, this isn’t the time to do this. People are already down and out due to the current situation, if you don’t like change move on and quit b–ching. I’ve seen too much of this attitude throughout the company and it won’t change anything. Try to make a difference with a better attitude. Quit the poor poor me c-ap. People such as yourself make it hard for those that actually care about what they do. So STFU or move on.

Last post is absolutely right, I didn’t even consider that.

IMO they never let us get much overtime at all. You were usually able to get off early on Sundays, and our park was real strict about not allowing OT.

You're right, the timing does minimize the impact overall. However, I think an earlier announcement for Ambassadors to financially prepare and paying Ambassadors weekly for two weeks, then beginning every two weeks would easy the financial strain this will cause for many.

Regarding the logic behind the the pay cycle adjustment, I believe this is just another labor cost cutting measure. It's about money; it's always about money with SEA and SR.

Weekends are usually the busiest time for each park; this requires more labor hours. Because our pay cycle ended on Sunday, management didn't have the opportunity to shrink the OT hours of those who worked over 40 hours. Now, management has three days to reduce labor costs by adjusting individual schedules (calling off shifts, reducing hours, or sending Ambassadors home early) for those who would otherwise accumulate overtime; thus a reduction in OT expenses.

While normally the things they do are devoid of common sense.... doing it at this time at least minimizes how many employees it might actually effect. 90% of us are furloughed and this and many would not see this email without visiting this site until if and when they actually go back to work.

I like to call out seaworld on the stupid things they do when they do them but this just does not feel like one of those times.
