Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

UHC/Optum Lay-off start up May 4, 2020

UnitedHealth Group (UHC & Optum) will be laying off employees (Aka Reduction in Force or RIF) on Wednesday, 03/04/20 or Thursday, 03/05/20.
UHG has being laying off employees for 2 years in waves. They do this so they can void the Warn Act and keep the layoffs out of the news. I have predicated many of these layoffs as I have an inside source in HR in MN. UHG has increased the layoffs since early 2019.

Confirmed lay off dates as I know of today.

1) 10/02/19-Wednesday
2) 11/05/19-Tuesday
3) 11/20/19-Wednesday
4) 12/04/19-Wednesday
5) 12/23/19-Monday
6) 01/02/20-Tuesday
7) 02/06/20-Thursday
8) 02/18/20-Tuesday
9) 02/19/20-Wednesday
10) 03/04/20 Wednesday-Optum will be hit hard but layoffs will occur across all of UHG.
11) 03/05/20 Thursday. Optum will be hit hard but layoffs will occur across all of UHG.

Anyone laid off in 2018 and from January 2019 - September 2019. Please provide the exact date you were laid off so we can update the list.

Maybe this might get news coverage once we have all the layoff dates.

David Wichmann started the layoff waves when he became CEO on September 1, 2017.

WHEN you are offered a severance they have you sign an agreement to NOT sue which is why this has not made the headlines. Karma will catch up!

I was laid off with 70 people in early March 2020 and I heard from former coworkers that the layoffs are 100% based on performance and that is how the decision is made. The strong performers on my team were NOT laid off and have NOT been laid off to this very day. That speaks volumes in my opinion.

I was laid off no notice 12/4/19. After getting a real awards and bravos. Excellent reviews. Called into a conference room on a speaker phone being told I was going into a meeting and being let go.

I can assure you that we are not going anywhere as your managers. karma is and has always been good. Im here to crack the whip, it’s my job and no I won’t give you a bravo. As far as being on this site- I’m on because I need my people who are still employed to stay off this and get back to work. Geez, and this is our current staff...

All areas and all departments UNLESS you’re a grade 27 and below... then your safe. They are looking to trim the fat... so if you’re in management and you’re not productive actually working the claims etc (not just a screen show but actually have your name on the work). then they are looking to get rid of you. Karma is beautiful!!

Hey manager, this is your vp. Why are you on a lay-off site when you should be managing? Seems like you are pretty up to speed on this site..sorry that uhc treats employees like sh– and sends jobs overseas but hey more money for us at the top, right?

Folks- this is your manager. And I speak for all my fellow managers. Get back to work. I don’t want to hear about layoffs, earnings, ceo pay, bravos, climbing up ladders or even parking. I pay you to do your job and I need you to start doing it. For all the others who have already fallen, good luck. The rest of you- get back to work before I start making dreams come true.

UnitedHealthcare, along with other insurance giants including Aetna and Cigna, have pushed for significant pay cuts for doctors. Specialists, physicians, emergency room employees, and even nurses and technicians treating COVID-19 patients have seen salaries slashed in recent weeks. Meanwhile, those same insurers have severed contracts with anesthesiology and neonatal care providers, also in the name of cost-cutting. A recent survey by the American Society of Anesthesiologists found that 42 percent of anesthesiologists had contracts terminated in the previous six months, while 43 percent of respondents experienced payment rate cuts from insurers of as much as 60 percent.

What specifically do you know and how do you know it? If you can’t give more details than “going to be a big one” then it’s most likely you don’t know anything.

To the poster. Do you have a source in HR or are you HR trying to create fear and uncertainty to have people willingly resign?

If you do have a source in the inside why are you mentioning it? Are you not putting them at risk by letting people know there is a whistle blower on the inside.

You don't need to keep posting this. UHC is known to buy out companies and keep them around for a couple years then lay them off so UHC can aquire assets and goodwill and eliminate competition.

Fortune 500 companies will be more prone to these action due to pressure to meet financial expectations from their shareholders, their actions are a combination of greed of themselves and their shareholders. How many departments had to hold authorizations and approvals before 04/15/2020 which is the shareholder meeting date. Healthcare providers that are for profit will put money over care and money over good employees; all about the bottom line. Knowing this, why question when is the next date? It is only a matter of time and does not mean anything if you made it passed the next layoff or not because eventually, majority of people will be replaced with lower cost workers or automation.

Keep your resume updated and always be looking out for other opportunities for you and your family. Don't trust UHC or any of these company sheep's, they will tell you how great you are, give you Bravos, give you 4-5s on your review, them at the last minute inform you of your termination.

But the Kool-Aid tastes so good! Today I’m having grape.
But you’re right, it’s not fake news. Since nothing has happened yet it’s just NO news.

I hate to say it, but I believe this may be legit. With the company moving toward more telehealth, you don't need as much clinicians the field, if they are calling on the phone. Hopefully no one is layoffed during the current situation. I guess we will see, but I am worried about my team.

Reposted due to Covid has delayed the layoffs... NOW that everyone is going back in the office to work they will start layoffs or whatever creative comment they have to RIF someone. You might call them management but they are NOT leaders! No ethics or integrity! Karma

Hmmmm, I think someone may be trying to stay relevant since their last prediction didn’t happen in March. Put your Ouija board away Nostradumbass and go back to reading your horoscope and getting your palm and tea leaves read.

Are you saying that the layoffs that was initially scheduled for March, will happen in May?
