Tuition Reimbursement Program safeguard?

Currently enrolled in the Learning Together Program. According to Boeing policy, you don’t have to reimburse Boeing if you are laid off which got me thinking...is it less likely that I will lose my job? Boeing already invested over $40K in me. Or am I being overly optimistic?

First off, congrats on continuing your education. I was in the same boat, ltp was paying for my bachelors in mechanical engineering, but being new I still managed to receive a warn for layoff. Luckily it was retracted before the layoff date. Layoffs are not correlated with ltp. If anything it made me complete school earlier as the notice was a wake up call and I took more courses per quarter after that. Good luck.

More likely they’ll suddenly stop reimbursing and you’re stuck with paying the rest of it

I highly doubt an exceeds expectations will save anyone from layoff—I have that rating for the last 8 years, but am certain I will be let go—it has a lot more to do with your job code, SMC, location, and (sorry to say this)—age and years of service—this applies strictly to non-union employees only–and I do not think that every area will be doing "rack and stack" either—again, more dependent on the location you are in and program you work on—expect 777 and 787 to take a heavy hit regardless of location or job skill—

You're being overly optimistic. The fact you're in school has nothing to do with whether Boeing will lay you off or not.....that's all down to your seniority. Sorry to sound so negative, but they don't care about whatever they've invested in you. They've invested lots of $$ in lots of people.....that's exactly why they need to put a clamp on it.Whatever they've spent on you so far, at least you got that.

I don't mean this in a mean or vindictive way, at all....but I'm sure it'll get downvotes or whatever.I was laid off a long time ago & was still able to utilize some school benefits after the fact.I have no idea what your personal situation is, just trying to be straight with you. If you're in the middle of some schooling, inquire with LTP or whatever agency is handling your tuition etc. & verify with them that you're still good to go, they should have some answers.Just tell them straight up what's going on & they will help you. If all is well on that end, you should continue with it, as long as you can....you have nothing to lose right? Good luck & try to take advantage of all you can.

If you are union then seniority is the key factor. If you are non-union then performance is the key factor.

Management for the non-union staff are racking and stacking their direct reports and they will meet (probably groups of managers under a Director) to discuss and agree who gets listed for ILO. Not all SJCs will be set for ILO (ITCPs for example) but for those that are, performance rating will be the largest factor in the decision. For a lucky few will rare skill-sets and/or no backups this may not be the case... but managers will get flack for allowing that situation to happen.

As for the LTP... it will most likely not make a difference to these managers as the funds for LTP are not from the budgets at their level. So be happy you got the extra $40k but I think it won't make a difference.

On a good note maybe the training you received gave you a strong, high demand skill-set that will allow your manager to argue in your favor that you are essential no matter your rating.

Btw if you are rated exceed or above it is very likely you will not get cut. Even in a worst case they would likely move an exceed+ to another role (e.g. to replace a met or did not meet).

Best of luck... I hope it goes well for you
