Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Opening stores may not mean as much as you'd like it to mean.

https://stevenpdennis.com/2020/05/07/retails-looming-question-if-you-open-it-will-they-come/ This postulates that customers (members) won't return as much as wanted. If people are hesitant to shop again, only those retailers who are strongly relevant in customers minds have a chance at getting customers in the near term.

When customers think of Sears/Kmart (IF), they will remember the lack of relevancy over the past few years and make their choice elsewhere.

Lampert is again positioned to come out of a retail slump (as in 2008) poorly positioned to get anywhere with what he was planning.

When was the last Kmart opened? Before Eddie acquired it. It's been a 15 year liquidation sale.

@1uud+14QMXxQ5 That probably isn't going to happen, new Kmarts stores are not going to open up any time soon, or at all.

Dude, they're all closing soon anyway, virus or no virus. They are the football team down 200-0 in the 4th Quarter. Yes they have to play through The Clock, but the end result has long since been decided. They could bring in freaking Tom Brady off the bench, and nothing is going to change the fact that they will lose. It's over, the only question is when will this silly blowout of a game finally be over, so people can view something more competitive.

Lampert chose to invest no money in the operation when it was in a much better position. Will he take a dramatic turn now? Doubtful.

Kmart actually did very well during the great recession and actually posted profit in 2010. I believe this pandemic will be very helpful to Kmart making a comeback. I think the future of malls and Sears is unfortunately more bleak.
