Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Is it too soon?

I think reopening as soon as next week is highly irresponsible towards employees. The number of infected people is rising, not dropping. There is no indication that this thing is even close to being over. So why put all of our lives in danger?

Oh, right, because we don't really matter, it's the mighty dollar that matters the most.

Covid cases will go up as the country reopens and more tests are done. We can’t live in lock down forever. It’s time to get back to work.

When will it not be too soon? When there are 0 cases in total? As a previous commentor stated that is impossible for many reasons. The numbers will continue to increase if and until there is a vaccine, and even then, don't get too excited. As long as safety precautions are in place, there is no time like the present.

Recovery rate with KNOWN cases is upwards from 97%. That is only the known cases, more have it but are not counted in that figure as they have not been tested.
In my state there are about 129 deaths and 99 % are of the elderly with underlying conditions.
So advise the group more apt to not survive to stay at home, have precautions taken when caretakers care for them, and get this train rolling!
Giving out “free” money is not the answer. Printing money will create hyper inflation as the dollar loses value.
People want to work. People need to work and provide as well as feel productive. It is built in to survive.
If you fear the virus you stay at home until you feel safe. If you want to work then open up and let’s go! Slowly and smartly.

You’re more likely to die of the flu. S— it up, I’m guessing you are sitting around and getting more money by not working. Have some self pride, and get to work.

Let's get back to fundamentals. We didn't shut down the country to STOP the spread, we did it to SLOW the spread and ease the strain on medical professionals. The numbers will never stop rising. We have effectively slowed the spread in many parts of the country and we are getting really close in others. Some still have a ways to go but will get there nonetheless. We simply cannot keep the country shut down until there is a vaccine, it is not sustainable.

It depends on where they choose to reopen. Where I live in NY (the highest rate state), our numbers are rapidly declining each day. I would be surprised if we didn't open as soon as the 18th, considering our reopen deadline for the county/state as of right now is the 15th.

Country has to get back to work. Many people have a family where both partners lost their job and medical and can't pay there bills. Right now there are a lot of people who have other serious health issues or need procedures ( neighbor was supposed to have cancerous tumor and its on hold for a month) can't get them. We need to ease into it in a logical manner. Good luck!
