Sears edited the page to add Manchester, Connecticut, to the list of reopening stores, effective May 22.

There was a time at Sears where handwritten signs were absolutely forbidden.

If the SGM found any handwritten signs displayed on his store walks, the ASM of that Dept would be immediately paged and asked why this was allowed to happen.

Now, handwritten signs are the norm, not the exception.

The sears in baton rouge reopened today. Along the road they had plastered a few "Sears Opening Today with the hours". The sign was literally dollar tree poster board, sprayed with orange neon spray paint, and the words written with stencils and a market. SAD

Stores had inventory during Xmas because there were 100 stores closed during the holidays. Even then, many stores had trouble keeping shelves stocked. Sears and Kmart have been over since Eddie decided it was his piggy bank to sell into cash long ago, and you know Eddie, buy for a dollar, sell for a dime. You can draw a straight line from 5,500 stores to zero. It hasn't stopped over time.

Retreating to a small number of stores, and then trying to make them excellent, makes sense if they are all in the same regional market or two.

It does not make sense if you are still spread out from San Diego to Key West to Portland (Maine) to Seattle and Anchorage.

And this is the real world store conditions that the cheerleaders don't like to talk about.

I went to the Pasadena Texas Sears store on the 13th. The store was so low on inventory, I could not believe it. Sections of the store are now completely empty, for this store it is strange to see. This store had a lot of inventory back in December just a few days before Christmas.

One of the exterior entrances was closed, possibly permanently. The customer elevator is also still broken since sometime in 2019. It is a shame because this is the last retail anchor at the mall, and the mall owners are spending money to try and bring the mall back to life.

I guess this is the same story across the company now. My local store at Deerbrook Mall closed in April along with Willowbrook Mall, leaving only 2 full sized Sears stores in the Houston metro area of more than 7 million people. Sears managers need to do what they can to fill the inventory back up, push back on upper management , do what you can to save the stores. As a customer, I am doing my best to support the company. Sadly with my local store now closed, and inventory shrinking, it is becoming nearly impossible to support the company.

Our store was liquidating before the closure. Will resume liquidating.

I believe some of these stores are reopening only to permanently close soon thereafter. Hybrid warehouse emptied at one store and items brought to store. Can't survive as order only.

Greensboro opened today too.

I doubt that these are the "strongest" stores. They are the ones whose state and/or local governments are allowing to reopen.

In Florida, I see that Fort Lauderdale and Miami (Coral Gables) are not on either the previous May 9 list nor on the new May 15 list.

Yep, these reopenings will just draw the customers in....LOL

All those customers buying Craftsman tools and tractors at a well stocked Lowes are now going to turn around and head to their nearest run down Sears only to find empty hooks and shelves and the items they want are backordered with no certain promised dates.

It will be business as usual at Sears, which is why they are on the brink of going out of business.

"Say what you will, but the company has been transformed into the strongest stores..."

That is really not saying much....rather these stores are "the strongest of the weak."

Eddie will continue culling the herd until nothing is left.

They are reopening so that they will be available for customers to shop at when the liquidation announcements are made.

Only a matter of time before they close forever.

Where are these so called "experts", that know everything that is supposedly going on....??? Two weeks ago, they posted no Sears stores were re-opening, then, 13 did..... Said the same thing again and it is happening again this weekend.
Don't listen to these "haters." They have no life and can only spread lies.... What a pathetic bunch they are.

People didn't believe in Sears and Kmart, but the fact remains that Kmart's were open and Sears' stores are re-opening. A lot of other department stores are not re-opening.

This company is stronger than people give it credit for.

Say what you will, but the company has been transformed into only the strongest stores.

Wonder why only Concord and Raleigh are opening for North Carolina? Why isn’t Greensboro opening as well?
