Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Just curious

Do you think Macys is going to reopen this week? Its suppose to be on the 1st, somehow I don't see that happening maybe the week after or around the 15th.

Would you want to work in the conditions that are present now? Run the risk of getting infected, being hospitalized, treated if the equipment is available and possibly rolling the dice with death?
What kind of heartless comment are you making and why? Furthermore why are you driving by the store so many times? Do your part, stay home and stop the spread. Keep trips to an absolute minimum necessary as directed.

My issue is that I actually have driven by my store multiple times and these salaried managers that are suppose to be working are not there

My guess: and only my guess:

  1. Layoffs and furloughs will occur this coming week.

The govt has funded unemployment heavily so that is the safety net. Research how to file in your state and be ahead of the game. Macy’s can not afford to keep handing out cash without any incoming dollars.

  1. No the stores will not open April 1. Why? Because different states have enacted different closure rules. Check your state web site to see what has been shut down and for how long. Some do not have a date such as my state it is until governor says it’s over.
  2. This is a fluid situation. We could find a cure tomorrow, or next year. If it is tomorrow it will take about a week to get the wheels rolling and longer to get our economy back on track. There will be uncertainty in all aspects of your life. Get accustomed to rapid last minute changes and little information being handed out.
  3. Unemployment sites will be overloaded due to massive layoffs. Do not expect to call anyone and get through quickly. Patience is key.
  4. Retailers may have to file for bankruptcy. Do not let this scare you most will reorganize debt and come out in several years. However if this lasts for an extended period - look for another career that is essential.
  5. The money handed out by the government will not be nearly enough to help you in day to day expenses. Use it wisely.

All of retail will have to change and do business differently to survive.
Again do not expect lots of notice on actions to be taken. This is uncharted territory for all of us and businesses are trying to figure how to function and survive.

In order to receive bail out money from the Government, they have to retain employees. So for those of you concerned colleges that may be affected by this please apply for unemployment. If you are receiving partial pay and you are full time, you will receive unemployment pay. Also, remember the Government will be sending checks to you as well. I know it may take awhile, but that money will reach you. Unemployment packages may be different by state. Washington State has a generous package for affected workers.

No. And hourly associates will be asked to collect unemployment. Maybe even getting a letter you will be laid off. They will reopen with a skeleton crew This includes managers and leads cuts.

Next steps will be communicated to colleagues prior to that date.

So when are we going to find out what is next ? April 1st is within several days and we are not given much information as far as to how are we going to get paid after these 2 weeks.

Again, no. The pay for colleagues is "two weeks" as outlined in the Covid-19 Leave and Pay policy posted on Insite. Layoffs/furloughs are next, and that information will be forthcoming.

Macy's will not be opening this week. My question is will they continue to pat FT associates 28 hours and PT associates 12?
Maybe to save money, they should not pay full time supervisors 40 hours and reduce them to 28 to save some money.

No, the latest letter (posted in here under JG's letter) said he anticipates "several weeks".
