People who were shown the door due to the coronavirus pandemic, were they laid off temporarily or for good? I'd just like to know how worried I should be in case I'm next.

If many Webster test labs are closed, why would you pay contracts to sit home and do nothing? I feel bad for them but it makes sense
Why were contracts really let go? The virus, I doubt it. Is business off that much? Do you really think if business was that good, that X would let people go? Overtime even got canceled after it had been a way of life for years.

Regarding your point #2:
Not sure if this is a factor but I believe Vanguard who manages our 401K is one of Xerox’s top 5 shareholders.
A few items are known.
1) if you decide to take your pension lump sum, you will not be re-hired (per policy)
2) incredibly, same applies to 401-k for which there isn’t any possible XRX benefit Unlike pension where I can see reasoning, however flawed.
3) if you are a Xerox employee and received a severance payout your chances of being re-hired do not exist for one year. Even after that, chances of making 80% of your old salary are slim.
4) examine yourself federally mandated OWBPA table showing who was, and was not, laid in the round. In many cases XRX clearly shows age discrimination right there if you take the time to review it.
The unemployment benefits are gold at this time. If you are layed off collect your paycheck
I haven't seen anything about employees, only contract. While it s—s for them, and I really hurt for them and their families, I have to put priority on Xerox direct.
What groups were furloughed? I only heard about some contracts.
People who were furloughed in Webster, NY were furloughed for 90 days. Your guess is as good as mine if that 90 days will become 180 days, 365 days or permanent.

I’m sorry you are worried, but do you really think you can get an answer to that here? There is no doubt someone will answer you, but common sense should tell that business conditions are changing daily. I am sure the person that approved the layoffs doesn’t even know for sure.
