The next union to be abolished will be the IAM by the end of this year. The job of a machinist is nothing more than a parts changer and takes no skill whatsoever. In fact at a lot of points across the system their jobs are being contracted out and at most smaller points the MSO craft is doing their jobs. This will be an easy abolishment for UP as they will divide the crafts work with the IBEW and MSO doing their current jobs. The MSo craft has been the safest on record and UP pays them the least amount of money. After all most of the machinist currently around the system were once in the MSO craft, Don't worry IAM workers you will not lose your job, you will just be part of a different union, IBEW or the NCFO. UP will not rest until all the unions are abolished and all the work will be contracted out.

Who will hostle, clean toilets, pick up trash and actually do all of the MSO work when the “machinists” are all gone? Guess the managers and electricians will have actually leave the office/computer/chair to handle it. Good luck.
Seems like if they can do what they did to ARASA, MSO, Clerks, pipe fitters, boilermakers, cab carpenters, and the list goes on, why would anyone think that they are safe?
It may not take much skill to just be a part changer, but it does require leaving the heated and cooled office with comfortable chair. There are still a few things that must be done and can’t be “mouse whipped”.
The poster seems happy to be making a r—ded announcement about machinists going away. Whatever happened to our unions sticking together? I don't want to see anyone lose their job, no matter how much I dislike them. If the railroad is able to get rid of the IAMAW, then the rest of us aren't far behind. Too many snowflakes and not enough solidarity on this page.
Thanks. I believe I will
All renaming unions? Have another c—tail.
we need all renaming unions to form together and strike before it is too late.
The IAM and IEBW will be around for a long time. It's part of the railroad labor act. We are still protected. ARSA had wording in their agreement that stated that anyone could do their work just as the CTI's do. You see they allowed F&O's to become supervisors, but you don't see them becoming craftsmen unless they go through an apprenticeship program.
Well we still here for now speak on your own jobs!!!
Mso’s will also be gone as they already are in alot of UP yards. Cleaning and moving are done by contractors in most yards and in others the ibew and iam are handling it. Wont be hard to do at large shops. Its under Venas plan
Dude must need a Snicker.....
Dont get in your damn feelings about MSO's. It's not us making decisions. We're going to keep cleaning shi**ers....and cleaning cabs. You need to speak on UNION Pacific NOT US!!!
Lol the safest because you clean cabs and do shi**er changes. Every railroad Union is in deep Sh– was effortless for them to get rid of the arasa.
TIME TO STRIKE BROTHERS!!!!!
Seniority will not be dovetailed.
Dam you mad bro?
I hope they get rid of all the unions and just have contractors
I heard this was going to take place at the end of 2020. They must have backed it up because of the epidemic. Really no loss hear as the machinist in NP are the laziest craft I have ever seen. They sleep in their trucks, watch movies, play games and the worthless managers do nothing about it.
