I'm a former Macy's AP associate, I'm aware that Ops and AP combined making AP and Ops managers fight over one position a year or two back, I'm just curious what is the future for AP now given the current situation? Do you see AP being eliminated? I worked with some good people and was just kind of curious what if any future their department has?

OP is not coming back in neighborhood stores, and nether is AP because they now have teams at certain locations ofAP personnel that watches all on video.
My store had 6 lp guys and one ap/op. In 3 months. It went down to 3 lp and one ap/op. So that was just with cuts. Now look at it now with the giving situation. I think any yearly card that was planned a year before will be accelerated. . Let’s say you were manager for 30 years but you made it through this round I think when the door is open if they open your next on the chopping block within weeks
Asset protection is usually cut thin when financial hard times are knocking at the door.
Also with technology it will even be cut deeper.
I would expect some changes is this division. My 16 years in that field told me that there were changer coming and I got out of retail. Combining ops/AP for managers was a cost cutting move that dropped expenses but AP suffered tremendously. Shortage increased beyond all I have ever observed.
There is minimal if any return on investment with AP. My suggestion: use this time to strengthen your resume. Gain education or get ready to shift to another career path.
Macy’s may come back, my thoughts are it will be extremely tight money wise and with limited staff, but AP will never be the same.
You all should know by now that division does not make money, therefore it is expendable. Skeleton staff or remote viewing from regional area.
OP and AP will have a place at re-opening, except for the neighborhood stores (just like before). Macys has assets to protect as much as ever. These positions will be lightly staffed at the beginning as in all departments.
