Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

What will this all mean for retail long term?

More customers are naturally being trained to purchase online then come into the retail stores. There will be a high percentage of retail deployment positions( WFH) becoming permanent. Some corporate locations will stay closed because foot traffic is expected to severely decrease( once restrictions are lifted) and will never get back to pre corona shutdowns. Ultimately layoffs will be coming. It may take 2-3 months but there is no doubt it will be about 10% overall in retail. I hope I’m wrong ...stay safe everyone.

A plague is not changing anything. Customers will still come into store being needy as all. They don’t want to do things themselves. It won’t change lol

If the Company has been training the customers since 2010, we haven't been doing a good job! If it takes a pandemic to train these people for phone setup, phone activations, tech coaching, so many ways to pay your bill without using that machine We haven't been serious about the everyday mantra!

Retail will never be the same. They are never going to have more customers in the store waiting to be helped then people able to help them. There will be a 1 to 1 ratio of reps to customers and even if your with a family only one buying member will be inside. Even with the one person in side you will be guided to keep distance and then communicate with a partition. It will be expected that people know what they want to buy and our job will be less convincing them what to buy or going over different options. If you don't know what you want come back when you do. All clerical related store things will be directed over the phone or online and those customers will either wait a long time in line outside 6 feet apart for some bull p–p or just be directed to go online. Filtering the BS will be a lot easier now. There will be forever less things on display and less space actually needed. Beyond this obvious the implications are vast

Large companies like Verizon wouldnt get the loans no but they have tax credits that will have the same stipulation on them.

Verizon doesn’t need, and won’t be taking advantage of, any government-backed lending facilities. There will likely be hesitation in making any layoffs due to public perception/headline risk but as the list of large corporations making such moves grows that risk is diminished. Verizon will do what is in its best interest, do not bank on nothing happening until Sept.- Verizon is not subject to that timeframe. If you are in retail use the time to bolster certifications, trainings, and career prep. because the retail channel will not return in the same form/size that existed 3 months ago.

We won't see layoffs for a little bit. The government is giving them money to keep you employed. If they layoff they don't get the money. After that time period oh yeah 25% layoffs/wfh re deployment. Why I made sure I was in the first wave of wfh. That way I can find a new role and adapt. Feel sorry for the reps who hardly know how to work a computer.
