Installing back office across Optum. Big brother at its finest

Optum is planning on installing back office across the enterprise. Some groups are already on it and have been for awhile but if you’re not aware what it is, it’s creepy and big brother at its finest. For those computer based, they can see what you are doing all day long and use it as rationale to lay off. So if you’re a telecommuter who decides to work from home while you are sick or kids are sick, if there is extra time in idle, it can be picked up and used against you. I always swore if I ever was put on back office I would quit. Quality work is what should matter, not feeling like I’m being babysat

UHC has had this on installed on all their computers since approximately 2018 and it has been a failure. Many departments are no longer using this "spy" tool as the manager reports are difficult to interpret and there are methods that employees have figured out to skew the idle times...making this tool too complicated and time consuming to be useful or efficient. Optum should learn from the UHC experience before wasting resources.

They have had this capability for years (since 2008/2009), this is not new... just a new version/product of it. This is why I never connected my phone to their WiFi or accessed personal accounts on their company owned asset when I worked there.

Help desk said if you do a full scan with the anti virus software everyday it should remove spyware. I can't say this is a fact but I did run it and the first time it found like 7 items to remove and a few had weird names with like project in the name. Then after that it didnt find any but I would suggest running it beginning of each work day.

IF you have Citrix or virtual machine installed on your computer then YES they can see everything and have been for a long time!!! Management is the BIGGEST scam and waste of money to be used as a babysitter! I have to report my work on 4 different areas not including my time worked. Definitely NOT efficient!

AOVPN is different than back office. Like the poster below how do you know if back office installed on your machine other than antidotal “my computer is slow”.

Assuming I have it anyway but it would be nice to know for sure.

Back office has the ability to see your jabber messages, emails, literally everything you do. I think it’s at a managers discretion to view it but as someone who has had to file a complaint to HR in the past over a manager (and a few of my team mates did as well) it’s scary to think that security/privacy might be gone.

To the last person who posted: you're naive... I know for a fact there is computer monitoring and being used to target people for layoffs. It isn't my fault if I'm not being given enough work and zero deadlines. They should focus on hiring real managers.

Guys, The equipment you work on each and every day is owned by UHC/Optum/UHG. They have every right to monitor their equipment. Where can you work without swiping your badge for every door you walk through, cameras installed, calls monitored? Doesn't exist. I've worked here for over a decade and have been "monitored" since day 1. Do your job and there should be nothing to worry about, right?

Well heck what's the point of even having managers if they dont give work direction and leave it to computer software to check up on your activity. I guess they can lay off them managers too. Eventually they'll offshore all non executive jobs.

I used to enjoy working for this company but the last 2 years of c-ap I've dealt with at all levels where it's turned into a dog eat dogs environment and there are very few honest and good people left.

I have noticed the same. Glitchy screen at times, flashes of things looking off. I think it was loaded on last update maybe. Plus with our management acting extra extra distant, leads making off handed comments with attitude down the drain, very low caseloads.. like we do not have enough to worry about with kids at home and trying to manage with the pandemic. I don't know how can be expect to not have down timeif we have less than half caseload. But go a head and watch us. I guess that is corporate life

This is already on my computer as of like January when I started to notice my computer slowing down and someone accidentally typing over me a few times. Optum can s— it. The culture of this company is the most messed up I have ever experienced. The executives act like children and like they were raised in a barn.

I think this was on my computer and I received a new computer late last year. Things I was doing was being repeated back to me during group meetings and I was being ridiculed in an attempt to get me to quit.

I noticed a few times people typing over my screen like I was being watched. The mothers should do a better job of managing... I was never given deadlines or improvement feedback by my manager. Also, never give your personal cell phone number to management because they have ways of tracking you on your phone too.
