Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Survey time - Speak up

The Vital Signs Replacement Survey is live now and there's a nice, free-form space for you to fill in what would make UHC a better place to work.

If you were one of the many on here that knew when each round of layoffs was coming months in advance, only to have management tell you they knew nothing about them, here's your chance to sound off. If there's enough of one item, they are more likely to address it.

There needs to be a better system for keeping talent in house, especially seasoned employees. It's a slap in the face to anyone when they let you go and other departments are still hiring. I feel like most of us would rather switch teams than go on unemployment unexpectedly and go through the stress of finding a new job elsewhere.

I was very honest on my survey, when I began my career many years ago I felt great! The feeling I could retire from here.. Fast forward 5 months after working for the company and I was in shock! The nepotism, bullying, discrimination, racism. They only promote their butt kissing friends or family- who are not qualified to even separate paperwork.
Also no matter how unethical a task is, you’re just supposed to say yes and chug along and not ask questions. Well after the complaint to Ethics and no behaviors changing, the EEOC is now involved with the company. I think if more people speak up and don’t back down. Then a movement can be made!
I’m so sick and tired of seeing talented coworkers bullied, then forced out. They were too scared to speak up, So I did! We have a team prepared for this battle!

While individual responses are anonym on survey, the results are tallied and rolled up to each tier from the direct supv & above. Using freeform comments help to easily identify the employees 'cause of their own writing styles. Do what you will.

To Be exceptional:
Be wary and have your guard in place at all times-most of what you believe is an illusion. For any organization, effort is a moot point when it comes to layoffs in relation to business strategy. You are only human capital.

A bad manager is almost impossible to fire because leaders have no metrics. If you have a poor manager, fill out the survey with low scores. That is their only metric. Also call HR and report them for everything. Speak out about things they are holding you accountable for (work on time, communication, reliability) and hold them accountable. I see horrible leaders, but their people don’t speak up. They have one or two friends to nominate them for leadership awards, so their director doesn’t know that they are manipulative. Also, if you are passionate to lead, jump into leadership! We need new leaders who understand the difference between leadership and management. Please continue reporting any unethical behavior and reply to the surveys because that is our ONLY metric. Boycotting also speaks volumes if you can get others to do the same. If it’s just one person speaking up, it’s written off as a non-issue. Don’t settle for poor leadership!

Don't be afraid to tell the truth about your manager or any question in these surveys. There are no consequences for being truthful. I was one of those lemmings that gave great ratings to my manager so they couldn't isolate the bad rating in a small sample size. How silly of me, my bad manager is still bad.

COVID has brought the best managers to rise to the occasion and the worst to show their true colors.

Be honest on these surveys, we have too many bad managers that don't advance their teams and only try to maintain their own status quo and egos.

There are health plans were leaders have been in place so long, that there becomes a lack of diversity and ideas.

Time to change that.

You have to realize that a survey from one employee have ZERO ability to change your manager's personality and ethics. That said, say the serenity prayer to yourself over and over and then decide whether this is YOUR fight. If you conclude it is your fight, don't go it alone, gather an army to fight it. If you decide it is not your fight, just fill out the form in a way that maintains UHG's culture: A positive charade.

I don’t understand any of this. I love this company and all of management. I feel highly rewarded and never in jeopardy of losing my job. Now, the VP has told me numerous times that I’m ahead of my time and an asset that UHG cannot afford to lose. We need to put in 100% Effort at all times. Let’s all strive to be leaders! Most of all be honest on you survey

Mr. Former director. I would love to believe you, but I cannot. Do you honestly think a director would come to these boards and take the time to post about survey anonimity? Even if you were a director I have a string suspicion you are being untruthful and you truly have good intentions than I do sincerely apologize.

About the survey. Let's take into consideration what we know. High amounts of favoritism, morally unjust behavior, looks how many times UHC has been sued Sep. 13, 2019, Nov. 4, Nov. 7th, 8th, and 12th due to wrongful denial and treatment for mental health patients, these constant layoffs and hiring poor over seas workers processing claims for people who are sick! Would you be surprised if they monitored who took the survey? If they knew who gave a bad score do you think they take it as "we need improvements", "I see their point of view", etc..

Do your own research and make your own decision. Do what is best for you and your family, big business will never understand our point of view and we will always be seen as expendable.

I worked at UHC as a Director for 10 years. I am no longer there and I left on my own will, but I can tell you 2 things, I despise if UHC, BUT I never once knew who took a survey unless the free text explained something that was specific to one event that the details would have eluded to that particular event and person. Now, with that being said, if a comment is threatening in nature, they can go back to the third party, whom administered the survey and have that information pulled. UHC doesn’t have direct access to that information.

We had a small team and the managers would brag about monitoring the computers so they knew exactly what you said. I’ll skip it. I’ve never seen anything good come of these. We need a CEO who will actually come work with us not brag about how he has been exercising... spare me.

On behalf of all my fellow managers, please always be honest of these surveys. They are totally anonymous and we need you to be completely honest so we can make UHG a better place for you to work. We are all in this together. Thanks for all your extra efforts the past few weekends. It’s much appreciated by management

Do not be honest in these reviews unless you truly believe your Manager deserves good scores. The survey is not anonymous.

It s—s that you have to lie to give scores that you don't believe in, but unless you are okay with walking out or being harassed until you quit or get fired, please just lie on the survey, give good scores and continue to look for other jobs. These managers do not have the humility or mental maturity to take constructive criticism yet they provide feedback to you...this is no different than a d–g addict giving you advise on how to be sober and responsible.

I find it so silly how managers expect us to give them perfect scores yet, managers, give inaccurate scores for their employees. Example: you have an exceptional worker, but that exceptional worker gets 2s and 3s while poor quality workers who are on the good side of management get all 5s. This also applied to promotions. Ill fit employees are promoted to positions based on favoritism and those poor managers ride off the success and exceptional work of the good employees who are getting 2 and 3s....can't believe this double standard.

UHC if you are reading this, please keep a close eye on managers. How difficult is it to be fair and equal? If that does not come naturally and it has to be forced, how are these managers when they lack even the most basics.

I find it interesting that the mid-year vital signs are out exactly right now and my manager is sending out emails asking us to fill them out 100 percent participation. I read that a sign of lay offs is surveys. Yes, it is exactly mid year, isn’t that clever? I agree they are not anonymous and they are to get out disgruntled employees. I agree the best statement you can make is to not fill them out. Why do they push so darn hard for 100%? Bonus AND sifting out disgruntled employees.

I love my manager. Always willing to listen and very eager to support the team. I would work weekends and holidays if needed for my manager

Anything but "strongly agree" that your manager is wonderful is a big mistake. They will hunt you down. Their own raises and bonuses depend on your high review, so it's worth their time. And honesty, my manager had nothing else to do. She just monitored her LinkedIn profile and did the occasional PowerPoint with content we had to supply. The rest of her time was open for searching out the malcontents. It was really the one thing she was good at.

Anthem went overseas and came right back! They learned quickly that would not work out to be best for the company!!! UHG has always been behind the times with the worst reputation.

No worries about layoffs, we have you covered. Let’s get back to work and concentrate on the task at hand which is working through the long weekend. Appreciate the efforts as your manager and hope you continue to shine and show that UHG is a great place to be. I’m going to sign off for the holiday - thank you for putting in the xtra non-paid hours.

A zero participation rate would speak volumes over taking it and being honest. They don’t really want to know, In the several years I was they the same attributes were scored low yr after yr and nothing was done to address them.

Don't be too honest, now with these surveys... I doubt these are truly anonymous; after all, you do have to log in with your UHG credentials.

I'm sure any criticism – especially directed to your manager – will bite you in the butt come yearly review.

Post ID: @1vme+154Ndvgy

There is no point in completing the survey with the truth. It may make more of a point to not participate. The company does not care about employees. We can all be replaced.
