Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Mistake.

I wish someone from higher ups would come on here and just admit that PSR was a bad decision. UP made billions over so many years, had outstanding customer service, and many employees working, and morale was outstanding. Now I’m asked who you working for? I say Union Pacific they say I hear that company is going down.

@OP The only problem is that PSR wasn't a bad decision for the shareholders and others who are compensated in company stock. It was bad for the rank & file, but you agreement people always seemed to be fine with that until it was you who got stepped on.

If you don't like UP or working for a railroad, do what a lot of us have done and get a job elsewhere. Nobody is forcing anyone to work at UP, unless you're an OMT who took a relocation package (dumb).

They are in the freight shipping business, not in the locomotive repair business. They don’t care who can fix anything. Priority is to finish busting the union. If you owned it would you be pleased paying what they do for the results they receive?

I have a life. I have free wi-fi, Netflix, a whole shift to enjoy. Enjoy the 10th and 25th of each month while watching the show. It’s not a deal breaker if I have to actually do something every once in a while.

Can’t win back customers when it was the current senior management that ran them off got to get rid of that cancer before you can attempt to save anything. Even then it’s going to be an uphill battle to regain any of the customers they lost or get any new ones especially when they’ve been labeled the worst company to work for by Forbes, the bad press, and all the bad word of mouth that’s been flowing.

With or without covid-19 happening PSR is designed for you to go all in 100% or nothing. UP was not 100% in and it’s costing the company. Now add that and covid, total disaster. UP needs to win back customers. Cutting operations is only a short term money grab.

There one is now. Kansas City had two yards closed one was a hump, Hinkle was a hump, Pine Bluff was a hump, the global 3 yard in Illinois, Proviso was a hump, Davidson was a hump, Settegast was rearranged, Pocatello was a hump. Locomotives breaking in route dragging freight having to wait on light power moves to make trains whole again or starting stored in consist locomotives to finish trips, then instead of fixing the broken locomotives they put them in storage and pull the next one out hoping that one will run just long enough to pull freight before it breaks. The only yard that was unnecessary was the huge Brazos yard they were building in Hearne Texas that was the biggest waste of money to the tune of 550 billion dollars which if you google is currently on hold according to the company.

You can blame PSR or Covid 19 or your boss ... fact is RR business is in decline .. no more coal, oil , frac sand , as long as fuel is cheap freight will go to trucks ... more layoffs to come

How is it not working? Carloadings are down on all railroads. Velocity up dwell down isn’t that the name of the game? They closed what 5 humps? How much did that cost to operate did we actually need those? Are we in total melt down? Trains stopped all over?

I don’t want the higher ups to come on here and apologize. I want them to f— off and go away. I don’t care what they think. They’re so insecure though they have to come on here and argue with everyone even though they aren’t changing anyone’s minds.

When I started six years ago it was all lean six and the Toyota way. Car loadings went down got furloughed. Now its psr car loadings went down got furloughed. In a few more years it will be something else carloadings will go down and people will get furloughed. The transportation industry as a whole is up and down and it s—s. Up cant come up with a original business idea and will always be a follower.

Look out the PSR backers and s— a$$es are going to call you a liar and continue to say it’s working perfectly the company has never been better, then try to blame it on the employees not doing what they are supposed to do and dragging their feet and causing the issues you see. You’ll never see someone from corporate admit they messed up those that created this mess will be long gone and the next s—er that gets in their position will have to eat crow and go on the apology tour like the other companies that did PSR had to do ( google it and you’ll see the articles for CN, CSX, and CP). Although those same s— a$$es will call fake news and keep their heads in the sand.
