Thread regarding Microsoft Corp. layoffs

There you go, all stores will be closed

That's the end of the road for store employees. They are saying some will be retained to support via web, it's a fairy tale. There will be not enough work and they will lose jobs eventualy.

  • Microsoft on Friday announced it will permanently close its 83 Microsoft Store retail locations.
  • In the past decade or so, Microsoft began to expand its retail presence in an effort to create a shopping experience similar to Apple’s.
  • Microsoft said the closing of its physical locations will “result in a pre-tax charge of approximately $450 million, or $0.05 per share,” which it will record in the current quarter that ends June 30.

I haven't been to one in years and won't miss them. The last thing I bought there was a Windows Phone, which was a hardly a great experience. If Apple didn't have the iPhone, I doubt it would have as many stores. Laptops are easy to buy at Costco or Best Buy. The world has changed a lot since Microsoft Stores first opened. Covid has forced a lot of retailers to rethink their businesses.

very sad I greatly enjoyed going to the MS stores. Really enjoyed actually being able to look at and hold the technology there (laptops, 3d goggles, etc).
