Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

I really don't want to be laid off right now

I've been looking for a new job for the past two months - there's nothing!!! And considering that unemployment payouts are going back to regular levels at the end of this month, being laid off right now would be the worst possible thing that could happen to me.

So now I'm stuck worrying and stressing more than I usually do, which will probably soon send me to the doctor for high blood pressure. As if the pandemic wasn't enough...

This won't last forever. If you have no savings, grocery stores are still hiring. There are some hospital jobs. It may not be what you want but many of them will have some benefits. Hopefully you have saved for a rainy day. You will still get unemployment at the regular rate. The health exchange will be cheaper than Cobra but the deductibles are high. Things will open up again. It will definitely not always be like this. It's a good time to reevaluate your priorities and figure out how you really want to spend your life.

It’s nice to see the kind comments on here. We all need support, patience and understanding to get through all this craziness right now. Keep your heads up...this too shall pass

Anyone who thinks stress is good has not read the mountains of evidence for the fact the long term stress destroys minds and bodies.

To the OP, I am sorry some of your colleagues here are being so callous. It's almost certainly a misfire of their own coping strategy. We all react to stress differently, but I am sure that doesn't make you feel any better.

I am also in a similar boat. There may be jobs out there, but I started at Xerox less than 2 years ago with little experience in this industry. Although I have performed well during my time here, I am also very afraid of what will happen if I have to start completely over.

But let me offer this, in case it helps. I have lived through multiple economic crises, with the accompanying work disruptions. It s—s, and it's hard, and you may find yourself doing things you never thought you'd do. But you can do this! At the end of the day, if you are persistent and do good work, you will find a way to convince someone to pay you for it.

It only feels hopeless right now because the work is still ahead of you. So try not to think too much about the long term. Make a plan, work that plan, and focus on the now. Just take it one day at a time.

Good news: you have a job right now. Right now millions do not. Keep that in mind.

Bad news: maybe you won’t have a job with X at some point. BUT if you get a small package + benefits it can help bridge you past COVID economy.

Please try not to stress

“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!”

Very stressful! Sorry that you are dealing with that level worry at a time like this. I too, feel that same way. Sadly so do millions of others. We are not alone, which doesn't make it any better. Hopefully we will make it through this round and give more time for the job hunt. If not, I pray you will find something more fulfilling to your heart.
