How many of you had 45 days prior to receiving the severance paperwork to look at it?

Validate against your state laws. Fact, XRX has been known to not compensate according to state requirements. Whoever they outsource this function to must get a cut of what they save.

Sign it and move on. They have good lawyers that write these.

The 45 days is a legal requirement (at least in NYS). If you were let go as part of a larger layoff (not individually) they have to give you 45 days to review the severance agreement. They will not process your severance package until the agreement is received. The termination still goes forward as outlined in the package and you will still get any regular pay that you earned. It’s also your right to have an attorney review it (at your expense) before you sign it. It’s also your right to refuse to sign if you don’t want to. You will get no severance pay but you will still qualify for COBRA & unemployment and anything you earned as an employee (unused vacation, 401k, pension). Most of us just sign it & move on but it’s your choice.
