Thread regarding Optum layoffs

There are a lot more layoffs to come

People, UHG as a whole is using the Covid19 reentery (meaning going back into the office) as a means of hiding how many people they are going to layoff. The are doing what they call restacking or densification where they are either telling people they can work from home, go into the office or you don't have a job anymore. They are condensing the spacing in buildings that they occupy. They are using this technique to hide the massive layoffs that are ahead. I have been contracting at this company for 2+ years and have seen how ruthless the management is. It is pathetic how fearful the employees are of losing their jobs. No company should be run like this.

Wow...these descriptions of how horrible the managers treat the employees: the micromanaging, telling employees to not talk to their coworkers, etc. And all that matters is your metrics - if you’re fast, it doesn’t matter if you’re nice to clients or even accurate...the most important thing is speed. Quantity over quality is their motto.

Nobody in a tech position should be worried about losing their position, except for the subsequent larger loss of expertise to the third world. As it is, getting a chance to leave the clusterf*** that is Optum, especially from within OptumTech and for anyone that has to deal with tech-challenged puppet Santelli and his greedy upchain, is the blessing of a chance for a more honest life and less stress. UHG is a corporatocratic wage-slaver. Take your severance and run!

Everyone be prepared. Before I was let go, there was a lot of bullying and harassment about a month or two before I was actually laid off. This is what I have observed. They will distance themselves from you then lead up to going through all of your work and listening to all of your calls and will pick at everything possible to create a track record to justify CAP. Your manager will also add a lot more work for you to do and micromanage everything, if you come in too early, if you come in 30 seconds late from breaks and lunches, if they catch you with brief small talk with a co-worker, and brief i mean, Hello, good morning. I did not witness this personally, but I do believe that the manager will speak about you to others on the team resulting in the team distancing themselves from you as well so now, you are all alone dealing with more work, micromanaged heavily, scrutinized for everything. Another observation is if you take calls, the calls change, you get a lot more escalated calls and when its a supervisor call, the manager will not be available and if the escalation goes on for too long you will be coached on why you could not de-escalate. Their goal is to get you to quit. I took these as signs of RIF and toughed it out until I was laid off, but it was very stressful and at times, I thought "how much longer can I ensure this". Be strong everyone and find an escape from the stress and worry and know that there is better opportunities out there.

I agree and have personally felt the bullying for the past years. They will do everything to make you feel like you and your work is c-ap suddenly. They are trying to drive people out, before they have to give a package to get them out. This bullying goes into your performance evaluations with lower than ever marks, no raise, no bonus, different ways to distinguish meets level 3’s by using an ABC method on top of that. This is not told to the employee, but they are rating 3’s by 3A, 3B, 3C. If you are a 3A, you may get a raise or bonus, if you are a 3B or 3C you probably won’t. However, where is the A,B,C in their official rating online? I got my manager to admit this at one point. They also tell areas they HAVE to give some 2’s. Figure that out, bell curve, whatever, you must give a 2! Then lastly if all this doesn’t work, there’s always a CAP to put you on. Last resort to get you out the door.

The best decision, I found amazing opportunities even COVID situation and the pay is better. Even better is how great other companies are ! All of you who are still here please run ! The management s—s !!!! They just s— your blood and throw you out after so many years of experience..... Don’t waste your valuable life in this rotten place - Get out and get your LIFE back !!!! Using a pandemic as an opportunity to reduce workforce. It comes as no surprise they would do this. This company has been sued many times and UHC/UHG is very familiar with what legal limits they can cross. This company wants to lay off so much that they will do anything to do so. If you want to be valued by this company you will, when you are no longer on the pay roll.
