Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

CHEMINEER

Two words, GET RID. This product line is dragging the business down, that and people working overtime at some plants despite there being no work, how long can that continue?

So Greengate no longer expanding as 25% of the shop floor being rented out to another company, you couldn't make this s... up

Thanks for that, fully agree, they destroy good companies and people but think they know best, nothing but incompetence in the senior management team, I think we all agree on that. Happy July 4th!

No, I’m mechanical, located in the US.

Worked for R&M (Robbins & Myers) in new product development there a while ago.

Sorry for getting into the discussion of the business, but I did know some of the original guys at Chemineer in Dayton, Ohio.

Chemineer was an acquisition of R&M.

At one time R&M Was a really good company, just as MONO was a good company, sure we all had problems, but since NOV ran all of the people off who knew anything, almost every single product line they’ve ever acquired has literally gone down the sh_tter.

NOV hires 3 interns and lays off an experienced engineer, then wonder why it doesn’t work.

Incompetent management always “oversimplifies” product and destroys teamwork by demoralizing all people who play important roles.

I know and sympathize what you are going through, just don’t buy into upper managements BS they will never ever know!

Seems like someone needs to as clearly the engineers amongst us are not doing it. Assume you’re one of those fancy chemical engineers who dashed accords from Derby, aka one of the problems ?

First, not a Chemineer engineer, but a mixing system is not that simple.

Paddle profile, mixing efficiency, material selection, expected service life, energy efficiency, fire and explosion hazards , corrosion, adhesion to mixing elements.

The list goes on.

There are many tools used: FEA, CFD, Modeling, Fluid characterization/properties and so on.

I recall people saying the same thing about pumps and power sections “It’s just a tube filled with rubber, duh”

My guess, since you are over-simplifying and demeaning engineers, you are likely in sales, manufacturing supervision or some other non-technical role.

Unless we are sales engineers, we don’t try to sell, so why don’t you return the favor and not try to engineer.

Agree, at the end of the day it’s a paddle, shaft and motor, this should be bread and butter to a competent design engineer.....surely?

Design function need firing and replacing with designers with the engineering basics.

Perhaps he should show the sales guys how to sell them then as clearly the sales guys can’t do it!
